Uromastyx

Anyone have a uromastyx? I have a Ornate Uro and she is awesome. I have had her for about 4 years or so. I would like to someday try and breed uros but not until I have my own place. A uro, dearded dragon, 2 chams and eggs on the way (fingers crossed), and all the crickets my wife is going crazy and dont wana spare anymore room for my reptile infatuation. lol Anyway just seeing if anyone shares my interest in uros as well

I have a mali...had it since it was about 4 months old...it was born deformed and the owner couldn't sell it and offered it to me. It was the size of a three week old when I got it...and missing the foot on one side and the foot and about half the leg from the knee to the ankle on the other side. I took it to see if I could figure out why it wasn't growing. Its been with me for several years now and is finally about 3/4 of what full size is. Its doing well other than its size...feisty....does the uro "grind" to me and hits me with its tail even after being with me for so long!

I have had ornates and malis and nigerians in the past.

Cool a lot of people have the mali uros. Ornates are said to be the couch potatos of the uro world but mine is crazy. She also does the S dance and try to hit me but onse she is out she is cool. Likes to run around. Cool reptiles to have and watch.

Please don't feed him lettuce! It's crap food! I don't care what kind of lettuce; there are no substantial amounts of nutrients in any kind of lettuce. Romaine sucks only slightly less than iceberg, but it's all wasted space in your uro's stomach.

I have one mali (now) and had arguably two of the most famous malis in the world due to the Google placement of my caresheet.

Just Google "uromastyx caresheet". http://jason.creager.com/uros.html is like #2-#5 depending on the search terms the last time I checked.

What caresheet is recommending romaine lettuce? Do they also recommend aquariums for keeping a panther and an adult veiled, too? Geez!

The lettuce mixture I buy has 130% Vitamin K, also 80% Vitamin A. Being said that, those are both Water Soluble Vitamins, others being Vitamin D and E. This would help with having good water content. Also, has good amount of Calcium and Iron. My Mali also gets Parakeet Seed every so often and a variety of fruits and vegetables as treats. My Uro seems happy and gets the greens you suggest he also gets.

Lettuce is always wasted space compared to feeding greens that have actual nutrition in them. Any type of actual lettuce is basically crunchy wet air.
