Just a little tease:rolleyes:
It's been almost 6 weeks since Agnes laid her eggs and so far she is showing no sign of a second clutch.
She is also showing no sign of being interested in Kitty.
I am going to hopefully have them breed in June or July but had them together for a few minutes yesterday to see what her reaction to him would be.
It's been a few weeks since I tested this and she did not turn dark at all.
Despite that, she was still not interested and has not shown any receptive coloration.
Again, these meetings are not (at this time) an attempt to breed them.
These brief encounters every few weeks are an effort to gauge where she is at and to stimulate Kitty (although it appears he needs little encouragement ... he would like to get busy!)
When they are separated they cannot see each other.
They will remain this way now till May when I introduce them again.

I bred Marie back in November and she still hasn't shown signs of a second clutch. I have read separate things the retained sperm clutches. Some say within 6 weeks or so and one article I read said 180-200 days later. Marie is coming up on the latter and still no signs.

This is an interesting experiment and I am documenting everything.
I will probably write something for the veiled site concerning this in the next few months.
Although a singular and anecdotal account ... I think it will be beneficial, and if nothing else ... an entertaining read.
Trace .. you're funny (Trace and I have spoken often about what a little piggy/character Agnes is .. even in the most stressful and extreme situations, she will not hesitate to take advantage of an eating opportunity)

On another subject: I am currently working on an article about the possible practice of providing veileds with a diapause or winter downtime.
I will let you all know when I publish.

Carla laid her second clutch (I thought would be retained sperm fertile-but all infertile) 10 weeks after laying her first clutch. She is now burying her 3rd clutch as I type, so 12 weeks after the second. This one should certainly be infertile since I did not breed her. I reduced temps and food, but it didn't work this time around. So just for info:
1st clutch 10/23
2nd clutch 1/3
3rd clutch 4/5

Juli,

Thanks for that info.
I would definitely keep trying to get her to stop.
The time between clutches seems congruent with what I have read.
How many eggs in each clutch so far?

-Brad

1st clutch 78
2nd clutch 33
3rd clutch-I will let you know when she is done covering them and I dig them up! :)

Initially yes.
Very bright yellow.
In the photo they had sort of come to an understanding.
His colors had cooled a bit by then.
