Update on Mike & Celia

Thanks to several people who have posted and answered questions regarding Mike and Celia.

I took them to another vet, this one has more experience in exotics and here is the report.

Celia is in good health, good body condition, well hydrated and nothing amiss. She handled the transport to and from the vet and the exam well. She still is slow with her tongue, but is using is sometimes. She still prefers to just grab the crickets off the wall of her cage or directly from the bag. She has no idea what to do with the meal worms that I got....so suggestions to introduce that as a food source would be appreciated.

Mike on the other hand is touch and go. Things for her got bad VERY fast. Last week I would have said she was fine because she was still eating the crickets in the cage, slowly but still getting them. As of Tues she still has not used her tongue and now doesn't want to eat. We found her on the floor of her cage Wed am, so I got her in ASAP. The new vet found a lump at the base of her tail that wasn't there before. She got more stressed from the transport and exam than Celia this time. Vet said that she was hydrated, but not as well as Celia. The fact that Mike had grabbed onto her own leg and didn't want to let go wasn't good. She had actually cut herself with her own nails. But the vet could not find anything else obviously wrong with her, even in her mouth. So, the vet gave her fluids and some antibiotics just in case for the lump by her tail and sent me home to get her warm. She perked up after the fluids but not back to normal. When we got home I took an aquarium lamp and put it over her cage, she climbed up high and sat under it close to he top of the cage all night. When we first got home she did fall out of the tree again, but I helped her back into the tree and she stayed up the rest of the night. This morning she again refused food (hand held cricket) but I got the antibiotic down her throat and she was drinking from the drip. So, keep her in your thoughts and wish us well.

Thanks for letting me "talk" and offering what suggestions you all have, I (and Mike and Celia) appreciate it.
