Twin Panthers Hatched.

Today was a crazy day. I go and check eggs as normal low and behold I have an egg pipped. The baby's head is hanging out but it was dead. I grabbed a razor blade and slit the egg open. Once the egg was open I pulled the panther out to see it was a twin. It had 2 bodies 8 legs and 2 tails but it was attached at the rear. Attached are the photos of the two.:D

While I have seen triplette panthers from one egg, I don't recall seeing any conjoined twins. It may just be due to theri more common and numerous breedings, but other than veileds and panthers, I have not seen many or any defects in other species either.

Great Photos.........

Thanks for the great photos. Last month I had an egg that pipped but the neonate did not come out. I slit it open and the neonate was dead. It had a dark blob where the umbilical area. At first it looked like it was an organ that had pushed out of the area where the umbilical material comes out of the belly. After moving it with tweezers I could see it was a minature complete neonate. Like a "mini-me" version of the normal sized neonate. It was only the size of a pea. I figured it was a twin. Thanks for sharing your photos. I tried to photo mine but the tiny twin was too small. It just looked like a blob.

Crazy

Hey Guys,
Yeah im kinda glad they both passed. It would of been a life of stress and heart ache. This one was an extremly weird one. Thanks Guys

Neat. I had that happen twice in the same clutch so you could have it happen again. One set of twins broke out of their egg alive, the other set never moved after I cut them out.

Steevie Weevie

Steevie Weevie,

What are you feeding your panthers? Have you been to a fertility clinic lately and picked up some good stuff? LOL

Here's a pic of two live veileds a friend of mine hatched.

How long did the veileds live or are they still alive?

I've had several sets of conjoined eggs...two separate babies in each set of conjoined eggs. The eggs weren't just stuck together. Each set contained two separate babies but only one of each set survived to hatch out.
