Trichomonas

Just got a call from my vet, and Otto has a parasite. :(

It's a trichomonas protozoan, and I'm picking up the 7 day treatment tomorrow.

I've never dealt with a parasite before so if anyone can give me any extra info I should know, I would appreciate it.

I'm kinda freaked out, is this a big deal?

Sorry to hear about Otto. He's the picture of health. But, then, the trichomonas can be found even in very healthy animals. What will he be treated with? Flagyl?

Those parasites respond very well (or, very poorly, from their perspective) to treatment.

I would recommend additional misting. We have found, and some sources recommend, additional fluid intake during these treatments helps the animal by helping to flush out the meds and the parasites. Lowers the likelihood of side effects, too. A normally well hydrated animal can become dehydrated when taking these paracidal meds. We've seen that happen and jumped on it quickly with added hand misting and/or showers.

Thankyou Sandy!

Apparently I have to gut my enclosure?! :(

I have to buy all new plants, vines, anything that can't be sanitized.

vets orders.
