Too hot?

Hi all, I know I've been posting a lot but it's just new dad syndrome haha, anyway, it's been getting kind of hot over here and when I got home from school today my 4 month old panthers cage was in the high 80's low 90's and i know that's too hot for him. So my question is how can I keep a good temp of about 80-85 even when the outside temperature rises above that. I put some extra water in my cup dripper and my misting system is working so he doesn't get dehydrated. Thanks in advanced!

Is it that hot on his basking spot or lower in the cage? If the basking spot is getting that hot, change the wattage of your bulb to something smaller while it is warmer in the house. As long as there are lower temps in the lower parts of his cage he can get away from the heat if needed. When he gets to adult size those temps are fine for a panther. Check the temp in different levels of the cage to be sure he is not having to stay at 85 all the time.

One thing i did with my basking light was clip it to a movable arm so I can raise it and lower it as needed. I did this by putting a small shelf screwed to the wall over his cage with 1 screw. I rotate the shelf to raise and lower the light.

Okay, so I changed my blue 60 watt pet store brand heat bulb for a 40 watt house hold bulb for now, should this be alright?

Yeah. What are you using for measuring temps? The best thing I have found is the $10-$12 digital temp/humidity guage from Lowes. It has a wire lead with a probe so you can move it to different areas of the cage to check and you can leave the digital readout where it is.

That is all i use when it starts warming up. 40W soft white incandescent bulb. I assume you also have a UVB light on your cage?
