Thinking of getting some pygmys. Some Advice?

Im thinking of picking up some pygmys at the repticon in orlando next week. I just have a few questions about the enclosure, temps and humidity and other general care questions.

Heres what i got so far, i just want to get some opnions for it. (i havent bought anything so i dont have pics yet.)

I want to get 1.1 or 1.2.

The enclosure im not too sure on. Im looking at an exoterra 18x18x18 (is that too big? or is a traditional fish tank better? like a 30 gallon) with a schaffelera (sp?) and other assorted branches.

For drainage im going to have those little clay balls at the bottom with a foam layer on top of that then organic top soil. I have also heard that an aquarium charcoal layer is reccomendedunder the top soil but idk...

As far as temps go i really have no idea. I have heard that UV lighting with pygmys is not a necissity. Im going to go ahead and use a repti-glo 2.0 linear tube. The ambient temp in the room is around 75ish? lower at night so idk if i need a basking light or not?

Humidity. I usually mist my other cham.(male veiled) at 10:00 am or so and then again at 5:00 pm. i plan on keeping this misiting schedule the same with the pygmys unless i see standing water in the cage or if the cage is still damp in the evening. I know some "dry" time is good for the little guys.

Also, having a male in with females they will repruduce. Do i need to offer something special for the females to lay in or will they just use the provided substrate? How big are the eggs? what are some good incubating temps and from what i hear the incubation time is about +-60 days.

One more thing. Supplementation. Keep it the same as my male veiled?

calcium with out d3 6 days a week

D3 twice a month

Herptivite twice a month.

Once a week i also feed crickets clean (no supplement)

Thanks!!!!

What Brad said!

(don't let those little suckers get too warm – Brevs can handle a LITTLE heat but 75 ambient might push your luck over the long term, especially with low air circulation)

Good reading and good luck!

When I had mine, the only light they got was a 5.0 ReptiSun Light. Like Brad said, read those. Maybe on FLChams website also, since I'm guessing you are getting them from him?

You can get an Exoterra or an aqaurium. Personally I am having great success with plastic tubs. On my website I show an aquarium being put together for pygs. I would go 1 male and 2 females-that way the male doesn't over-harass one female. Low 70's is a good temp-a raise to 75 for shorter periods would be OK if that is what your room is.

They will lay eggs in the substrate the size of tic tacs. My eggs always hatch in 60-70 days here at room temp. I supplement the same as everyone else just as you stated above.

Pygs are not the easiest thing to deal with, especialy WC so accept some defeat! I would make sure FLChams is taking some pygs and get there early-they usually go fast! I will be there Saturday!

I think im just going to see if i can order them and pick them up at the show. that way its a sure thing.

Thanks for the links Brad. They helped A TON!
