Hi!

I just joined the forum and I was hopeing to get help with a question I have!

Thing is I recently bought myself a trio (1.2) of the Usambara Pygmy Chameleon (Rhampholeon temporalis) and I have a serious problem!
I have read that they shall be kept at a temperature of 22-25°C during the day. Atm here in Sweden where I live it is hotter than hell and the temperatures are close to 30°C.

My question is; is it correct that they shall have max 25°C? Im starting to fear for my small chameleons life and I dont want to loose them! They seem fine now but I want to be sure!

Well I had bearded pygmy chams that certainly didn't like the higher temps. I think the care for yours are similar ... nothing above 80 deg. F. High 70's in the day and mid 60's at night I believe.

I was using a frozen 2L bottle of water. I had several of them in my freezer and would rotate them daily. Just place one where there is a large enough area in the enclsure, make sure it can't fall over easily and it will help keep the temps down. Of course if you forget to put it in for a couple warm days in a row it may be detrimental to your chams. It's better to have them in a cooler room (basement) or near an A/C unit that will help keep the temps down!!

I've found the Rhampholeon temporalis to be very intolerant of high temperatures. Some species of pygmy chameleons will bury themselves in the substrate to cool off, but I've noted the temporalis not to do so. I would not keep the temporalis any warmer than 20C - 30C can be lethal to the species, do you have a basement the tank could go in during the heat wave? A room with air conditioning?
