Tap water?

So my mister a repterrian, states that I should not use tap water. It says the calcium and minerals from tha tap water could cause build up and clog my mister. I was wondering if all misters state this. Or how many of you use tap water in your misters? I've been using bottled water but it takes 2 bottles a day and gets a bit pricey. Also is the tap water as safe for my Cham as bottled?

You can use RO water, you can get it from ur local aquirium or tropical fish supplier.it will do the job just fine.

You can also buy distilled water at groceries stores by the gallon. It's pretty cheap. Personally, I use tap water, although you have to take into consideration how "hard" the water is in your area.

They recommend RO water because the total of dissolved solids is drastically reduced after going through multiple filtration membranes and mediums. Therefore, impacting the amount of mineral build up on your misting nozzles. Ultimately, you save money and maintenance in the end.

I use tap water that goes through a Brita water filter but I let it sit in an open bottle for 24 hours.

I have an under the sink filter and use that tap water. I do replace mister tubing every now and then and do clean the misting nozzles. I go through at least 10 gallons of water a week. I thought about getting an RO filter for the tap, but it seems to waste a lot of water.

Check with the RO unit manufacturers. There are now systems that return the "waste" water to the general house supply instead of down the drain.

Get your tap water analyzed to find out how hard it is and whether it contains chlorine or chloramine treatment chemicals. Your water utility should be able to help or suggest how to get it tested. If you are on your own well you can test the water for some basic things with an aquarium water test kit. Then you'll know what to treat for or what type of filters to use.

I prefer bottled water! Better safe than sorry

Some "bottled water" contains just as many minerals as tap water, depending on the source. Hard water (high in calcium and other minerals) often tastes better to most people, so many types of bottled or "spring" water are actually quite hard. This will also clog your mister over time.

You can keep your misting systems and foggers clear of mineral deposits by cleaning them regularly with vinegar.
