the STRESS factor!!!

I have to mention this because its on my mind. Everyone knows that Chameleons easliy get stressed out. Also, everyone should know that when you are a new chameleon owner everything makes you stress out. Well, for the ones that care anyways. Because no new owner is use to their chameleons everyday habits, it causes a huge amount of stress on the owner. Once the new chameleon settles in, the owner and chameleon both get use to each other. Now even though you may be use to the norm, stress will sneak in here and there.

What I'm talking about:
I have been breeding Pygmies for years, along with owning many different types of reptiles and mammals. I have had many clutches of Pygmies. Before every misting I count all my chameleons and look at each one (without touching). Well, the other day in my brev colony I saw one of my F2 females with substrate all over her. So one of two things happened. Either she fell or layed eggs. As the substrate was on both sides of her body I figured she layed because I knew she was pregnant and looked a little thinner. Like anyways I waited 2-3 days before sifting though to remove the eggs. It's always good to watch a female that has just layed for a few days just to make sure she is ok for the laying. Well, my little girl is not doing so hot. She hasn't moved much and didn't eat at the last feeding which is done every other day. Even though I have dealt with this before it still stresses me out! This was her first clutch and these always worry me. I learned my lesson early on as an owner when one of my girls died a week after laying her first clutch. And my chams think their the only ones that get stressed!! If I could only turn black to show them. LOL. Well I've said my peace!

preach on!

im far more stressed than i anticipated. every little movement or action makes me wonder.. is that normal? and ever day hes done some different things. i know in the back of my mind he is just exploring a little bit at a time and trying out new stuff..

earlier today he was leaning to one side.. then later on i saw him chillin with one leg hanging off a branch.. it freaked me out but i thought it was cool too. i think he was trying out basking positions or something.

anyways, i hope all your chams are doing ok!

I feel the same way! I just got my little girl about 2 and a half weeks ago and EVERYTHING is stressing me out! I had to move her viv today, and I was SO STRESSED about stressing her out. Lol

How about I've been stressing all week about all kinds of stuff with my baby Chameleon and now that everything finally seems in place and.working I find out I got to go out of town for three days and have to move his entire cage to my moms house so she can take care of him Lmao I think ill wear a black shirt that day to show him how stressed I am lmao

i just got a 2 month old ambilobe a few days ago and hes fine but usually dark colored... thats what ive been stressing about! i think hes just getting used to his new home tho!

Of course my stress was not for nothing. I lost her today. I just got home from work and did my evening mist and count, when I saw her laying in the back of the terrarium all black with white blemishes. Sad day!!!

Thanks. It's the chance you take when breeding chameleons though. At least she got her eggs out first.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Those little gals are so fragile. I love when they lay eggs, as there is hope for new babies, but I'm always afraid of losing mom -- which happens quite often :(

I know I normally wait like 6-7 months before introducing new females to their colony but I put her in at 5 months and she layed at 6 1/2. A little too early. I blame it on myself.
