Stick with what they know to reduce stress?

As some know, I am preparing to bring home a male Jackson, who has been kept in a pet store fish tank for at least 2 months now. He has one of those BioBubble Reptile Drinking Fountain things, and has been drinking from this for some time.

I have a spray bottle that I will be using, and I will be picking up a little dripper. This week, I will also be getting a temporary inexpensive mister, which from what I can tell, is good for one Cham until I work on his big perm housing.

My concern is that he is use to drinking from one of those Bio bubble things, should I add one to his enclosure to help break him in and reduce the stress of finding a new way to obtain water? or am I just worried for nothing?

I don't know anything about them, and would think they are much like a water fountain, where the water is recycled inside that thing, and could collect bacteria.. but again, I could be wrong..

Anyone have any experience with those things?

From what I have read on them, they have a carbon pad filter in it to filter and purify the water it reuses. So it might not be a bad thing to get one since he knows what it is for, also it has a cover over the resivour so no crickets or even the chameleon itself can fall into it and drown. I am honestly thinking about getting two for my boys. Can be found on amazon for about $20. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QYT2KFO/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=1944687582&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00QYT2MQQ&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0PVVKGEFVBJF57TA4AV2

I saw that. I tried to find videos explaining how it works but only found videos displaying it.

If it has a filter, maybe ill get one to be on the safe side.

Thank you

Did the store spray down his tank? Did he have foliage in the tank? He might lick the foliage as well as use the Bio bubble.

Carlton,

I have no clue if they sprayed his tank.. I would venture to say no. The only wet thing in there that we see is the fountain and maybe the substrate they use retains some moisture..

I have two pictures I uploaded.. not sure how to get to them again..LOL.. but Ill try.. the "vegetation" you see behind him is one or two small fake plants that are just right there behind him. Then the log you see goes from the left to the right of the tank.. and that's it besides the fountain thing. He also has substrate that looks like a very chunky mulch.. ugg, I want him out of there. The girl made a comment and said when it was slow, she put him in the front window for some sun, but they have NO cage or anything to put him in, nothing for him to climb on but merchandise.. and to me, while the gesture was nice, and Im sure he loved the sun, its kind of dangerous.

Usually when we stop to check on him, he is either on the bottom of the tank behind the little bit of fake plants, or he is hanging from the screen directly under the lamp, which is the duel bulb.. (uvb and basking)..

I would not recommend the fountain, use the search feature and you will find many members that tried it are not using them now.

Use a dripper and hand spray, he will drink…

CHEERS!

Nick,

I am ready with the hand sprays.. lol.. we use them on our young bearded.. and I do have a fogger that came with the cage... I found someone getting rid of their Reptirain Mister... its not fancy, but for one Cham, it should work well.

Ill take a look and see what others have said about it... I just wasn't sure how quickly he would adapt with as little stress as possible if I didn't include it in his new home.

BTW, here is the photo.. I really don't know why it uploaded sideways. :(

Wow, that thing cost $99.00 at petsmart (Reptirain Mister) and 60 something else where. All it does is squirt water. lol. From the videos I've seen it will wet everything.

Thankfully Im getting it for $15.. lol.. and I guess I can look forward to a wet mess? I have a lot going on this month, so I am trying to get him out of what he is in now, especially since hes been in that tank for like 2 months now.. which CANT be good for him..

If the mister doesn't work out, Im not going to be too bummed... its just to give me enough time to find something better as I make his bigger more Perm dwelling.. :) Im a stay at home mom... all my work is online.. so misting him a lot wont be an issue.. If this thing starts soaking my floors, then I will either tinker with it and see what I can accomplish, or, Ill ditch it..

:)
