hey :) i was thinking about starting a dubia roach colony, but i have a few questions first

1. are they like the pest roaches? because my mom wont let me have them if their pests and know how to get out, and live without their heads (its true, google it)

2. on average, how much do they cost to keep?

3. how big do they get?

4. do i have to seperate the nymphs from the adults?

5. if i do start a colony, where should i buy my first few from? also, how many should i buy in the beginning?

thanx :D

It depends where you live. You need 2 things for your roaches to thrive,(HEAT AND HUMIDITY)

They breed at 80-95 degrees along with maintaining a decent humidity level above 50 percent.

Unless you live in the deep south, you should be fine.

2. on average, how much do they cost to keep?

IMO They are one of the cheapest bugs to own. Since I started my colony, I have never spend any money on maintaining it.

3. how big do they get?

Adults get about 2 to 3 inches.

4. do i have to seperate the nymphs from the adults?

You dont not have to do any such thing unless you want. A thriving colony has all sizes of roaches.

5. if i do start a colony, where should i buy my first few from? also, how many should i buy in the beginning?

I get mine from Ken the bug guy (one of our sponsors). He sells 100 mixed sizes for 35 bucks. However, I think he is out for the moment. Someone else will give you that information, Im sure.

I started my colony off on 200. The more you buy the faster they breed.

Any other questions feel free to PM me.:)
