So here he is. I found him over a friends brothers house. I asked if i could look at him and noticed he has signs of mbd. I was trying to talk to him about uvb lighting, calcium etc, and he kind of seemed annoyed and overwhelmed and i told him i could try to make him better. He told me to take him if i can get rid of hisdeformations and he said doesn't really play with him because all he does is hiss and bite when he comes near 1 foot HIGH x 2 feet long cage.

He has 3 deformed limbs right now and some small looking cysts on the side of his ribs. His left forearm, left ankle and right ankle are swollen and deformed, but it looks curable.

This is my first rescue and needless to say i am pretty nervous. but i feel confident enough that i could give him a better home. Anyways, wish me luck peeps!

good luck on your first rescue.

Get him into the shower quickly and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Be sure to give him calcium supplementation. A vet visit would be the way to go to get a calcium shot. Perhaps some pedialyte would be beneficial. I'm sure some of the moderators will say the same thing only better! Good luck.

A vet could give him a series of calcium injections and when the blood calcium levels are high enough a shot of calcitonin to draw the calcium back into the bones. This is the quickest way to correct the calcium imbalance.

The crooked bones will likely always look like that....but at least if you get him back into good health he should live quite a long life.

Be careful if you handle him until you get the problem solved so that you won't cause more broken bones. He might be better off is a short long cage for a bit so he won't be able to fall far.

Make sure his basking temperatures are good and that he has a good UVB linear light, etc.....which I'm sure you know since you have a beautiful panther!

I am working on his cage right now, a 4x2x2 and i will lay it down on its side so that he cannot fall. The work on him will have to wait till tommorow, he fell asleep on my arm on the way home, it was late around 8pm so i just decided to let him sleep. he wasnt interested in water or food when he got home. but I am sure he will be tomorrow morning.

I am getting his things ready for him for morning. I will be sure to get him to a vet for some calcium shots.

thanks for the support everyone.

So this morning i took him into the shower, he had a nice long drink and he just chilled under the water letting it drip on him.

he was easy to handle and seemed very nervous but trusting. i thought he would be a bit more aggressive.

After the shower i put him under one of my other chams basking lights. he was immediately drawn to it and just sat under it on a towel for about an hour as i was making breakfast and tidying up.

When the morning overcast cleared and the sun came out i went to go put him in an outdoor cage, he immediately hissed and tried to bite me! i guess he just needed enough energy to act like his usual self , but considering his previous husbandry, that was to be expected.

I layed a 4x2x2 cage down flat so that if he did fall, it wouldn't be that severe (thanks for that suggestion kinyonga).

I placed him outside after he calmed down a bit, i saw him go at the HEAVILY dusted crickets and i think it was the first time he ever had superworms since he was really curious about them. I'm going to pick up some liquid calcium from a buddy of mine (thanks luckykarma) and i will try to give him a few drops tonight when i get home, but i am sure he will be fast asleep, so i will have to work with him some more tommorow morning. Just wanted to give an update.

He will be on this routine for quite a bit until i can see some clear signs of his improvement.

I know everyone is telling me to take him to a vet, but that seriously breaks the bank for someone who is trying to build up a savings. Sorry folks, but I know i can pick the brains of alot of knowledgeable soCal keepers here especially a mr. Dave Weldon who is better than most vets around here anyways.

oh, and he was popping and wheezing a bit this morning so im sure we can also add in a respiratory infection / pneumonia to his list of health concerns.

he seems like a fighter though. cuts off the damn blood to my finger whenever he grabs on to me.

Andrew; With all of his problems, I don't know how you can avoid a vet visit.
Maybe since you are doing such a good deed and have a rescue, the vet will cut you some slack. I hear everyone on the West Coast talk about Dr. Greek. He's suppose to be excellent. You might try giving him a call. Jann
