All I can find locally is large 1.5"+ superworms, too large for my cham.

Do they even sell smaller superworms anywhere?

they are pretty easy to breed imo takes a lot of patience though
a few sight sponsors have like 1/2" supers

great lakes hornworm (been wanting to try these guys)
mulberry farms

I got mine from mulberry I ordered mostly smalls with a few large ones to start a colony. My 3 mo loves them and the large ones have mostly pupated. They are nice because they grow pretty slow.

Are there any guides to breeding them? What are easier to breed, silks or supers?

Supers hands down! Everything I know about it I learned on youtube. I am using a sterilite drawer system I saw in one video. You put the beetles in the top drawer and hot glue a mesh into the floor just like you would for vents for other bug enclosures then when they lay eggs they fall through the screen and into the lower drawer where the beetles wont eat the little worms when they hatch. When the worms get a little bigger replace the drawer with a new one. You use oats and or bran as a substrate and carrots for moisture then you can gut load them with tiki tiki reptiles super chow before you feed them to your cham.

very easy

Wait....beetles make superworms? I am confused. I don't think my wife will let me keep beetles in the house, she is terrified of all bugs, including crix.

Superworms are the larval stage of Darkling beetles. They are fairly prolific and easy to breed with minimal need for space. The only drawback is that you will not start to see significant numbers of worms for a couple of months. Keep in mind that to continue a steady supply, you will need to have 20-25 adult superworms to set aside for pupation at least once every 2 weeks or so. After about 3-4 months you'll start to see small superworms from about 1/8" to 1/2". It takes some time and a lot of patience before you'll have a colony kicked off. Good luck.

That makes sense, I am going to read up more on this and see if I have the room in my apartment for a setup, otherwise I am just going to stick with crix until I get a bigger place.
