K have a question:D I am getting ready to get a new cage for my mean veild girl:) Now they are having a sale on the 24x24x48 screen cages they are cheaper than the 24x24x36 right now she is in a 12x18x24 but i was wondering i want to get the bigger one 4ft because one it's big and 2 it's cheaper(more bang for the buck) she is about 4 1/2 months now and i won't be moving her for another month or 2 but is the 4ft to big for her? or will she be ok to be in that large of a cage verses the 3ft one? This will be her permanant cage she is roughly 5 inches from nose to begining of tail( haven't got a good measure on her yet)..

Also when ppl say females get like 12 inches long is this including the tail or just the body?

Thanks in advance guys:)

Get the 4ft cage. I have mine in 4ft as well, and she loves it. When the egg laying time comes, she digs into her 16 inch plant pot. It has been 3 successful egg layings for her.

12 inch sounds like the total length, including tail.

Ok i am going to order the larger cage. Now One other thing... Should i get the reptisun 10.0 uvb instead of the 5.0 for the new cage?

From what others have said in other posts, the 10.0 uvb light might be too much UVB exposure. I would stick with the 5.0 uvb, unless other people say otherwise.

i would have to say 4 ft tall or more is great. anything smaller... neh. i guess you could get away with it, but the more vertical space they have for climbing, the better. unless it's for a baby or a pygmy, i really don't think there's such a thing as too big of a cage for a chameleon. :) mine is just under a foot long from nose to tip of tail and with the amount of moving around he does all day long i can't imagine keeping him in any cage smaller than that. invest in the 4-footer, your cham will thank you for it by hissing at you and trying to bite you. :D

My female veiled is in an 18x18x30 and she is just fine.
The sale on the 4 foot is attractive and if you have the space it's great ... but certainly not necessary.
My male is in a 2x2x4 and I do think that size is good for him.
Again ... great if you have the space, but not required for a female.

Ya i figured if i could get a 4 footer for cheaper than the 3 footer it was a good deal:) LMAO on the biting and hissing she does that now LMAO

LMAO thats soo true

don't use the 10.0 it can hurt your cham.

Thanks everyone for all the advice i am so excited:) It's funny how gitty you can get over something new hahaha!

I did have one other question i posted in the plant section but i will ask here to...

Question on the Crotons.... here is a link that say if peirced it leakes white sap and also says it's an irritant? so are they safe if a cham takes a bite out of it? I love these and i am very interested in getting one for the new cage so if anyone knows please post.

Hey Brad: I didn't mean to sound like it's a bad thing to put a cham in a cage any smaller than that, haha. Then again, I did hear that less space is required for a female cham than a male. Is that true?
