silkworm eggs --glue???--

So I have been doing some reading on the breeding and raising of silks. I still am confused however as to why the eggs need to be glued and waht kind of glue is used to do so?
Do the moths not attach the eggs when they lay??

Yeah, when the moths lay their eggs they stick to whatever they are laid on.

If the silkworm eggs are not glued down, as the silkworm is hatching, it will roll over and squash or smother itself. Yes, the mother moth leaves a sticky substance behind to keep the eggs glued down until hatching.

I let my moths lay eggs on paper towels, they are already stuck down naturally. I tear the paper towel just around where the eggs are and I then let them hatch in a petri dish from the paper towel. One way to get the eggs in a nice circle is to put a toilet paper roll over the moth after it mates so that it lays them in a nice little area rather than all over the place.

Yeah, it's best to leave the eggs where they are rather than scraping them off the paper or whatever they lay on. Then they are always right side up and you don't accidentally glue them the wrong way.

If you want to keep the eggs contained (because they will lay the eggs anywhere and everywhere,) put the female on a piece of paper/cardboard/whatever and put a small cup over her so she has to lay in the confined space. She might lay a few on the edge of the cup, but the majority of them will be on the paper.

Ok thx that makes alot of sence now. Just curious what would one use to glue the eggs down if needed.
