Sick Vailed

So last night i realized that our vailed had kept closing her one eye. it was towards the end of the night so i thought maybe she was just getting in sleep mode. But this morning she had her eye still closed and as the day went on we noticed she was rubbing her eye on the branches and now shes opening her mouth and leaving it open. We're taking her to the Vet in a little while, just curious if anyone else had been through this were their chams? I attached a picture of the closed eye and open mouth.

Did you ever set up the linear tube light? Your previous threads said a coil UVB light was being used. That could be cause of her eye issue and make sure you tell the vet so they know. Check for stringy saliva and popping noises while breathing, could be respitory infection. Take a fresh poop sample with you to have a fecal done to check for parisites.

We ordered the new light set up, just waiting for it to get here! We took out the compact fluorescent bulb and replaced it with a regular incandescent bulb for now.

Rosalita went to her first vet visit today. The Dr. inspected her eye and didn't see any infection or scratches on her eye. He did tell us that it's common for chameleons to get small particles in their eyes. He flushed out her eye and gave us eye drops that we have to administer 1 drop twice a day for 10 days. Her breathing went back to normal, she's no longer leaving her mouth open. Right now she's just hanging out on a brach, eye closed, but she does continue to open it. The Dr. told us that if it gets worse or her symptoms change to just give a call and come on in so we can figure out what is going on. If it keeps going on after the 10 days (boy do I hope it doesn't!) to call and get her back in. He said other than the eye she seems completely healthy, good coloring, breathing normally, moving around quickly.

Keep your fingers crossed! Hopefully she's alright!

If she is breathing normal and still has mouth open on occassion, it could mean that she is releasing heat. Reptiles, like dogs don't sweat so in order to exspell excess heat, they open their mouth. Check her basking temps and keep different levels of branches under it with the highest branch no less than 6 inches from the top and temp should be around 90. If she has a lower branch and wants to change temp but still bask, she has that option. Keep us posted and I'm so glad it isn't anything serious.
