Shipping?

For those who have experience shipping their chams, what is the most cost effective way/safest way to ship the little guys?

Ive looked into the site sponsor, ship your reptiles, fed ex and ups. And it seems very costly, compared to the $40 or $50 flat rate shipping that most people offer. How is this possible?

I have to be missing something?

any advice, input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

No, your not missing anything, it IS very expensive, and there is really no
way around that.
Use "Ship Your Reptiles" as the safest way, it goes through FedEx, who is
better at handling live animal shipments then UPS.

If you are shipping a reptile, be sure to use a heat pack and make sure
the devilery is next day by 10:30am.

Do you know how to properly pack a reptile for shipping?
If not, SYR will help you.

Some reptile companies give a flat rate for next day shipping of the animals they are selling becuase they eat part of the cost it takes to ship, not to mention, sine these companis ship soo much, they usually have business accounts with the shippers, and therefore get a reduced price.

The cost of shipping is what it is. its high. Because so much goes into it when you are shipping from say Maryland to California, and it has to make a cross country journey in like 15 hours.

For those of us who ship reptiles, which I have shipped about 50 of them, we use Ship your reptiles.

Due to this cold weather, its best to make sure you ship on a day where night time temps wont drop below freezing, and that you pack it using a heat pack or two.

SYR has great instructions on shipping.

Ship Your Reptiles offers insurance (at an additional cost), which is part of why their rates are a good 20-30% higher than Reptiles Express, another shipping company.

You are fully covered if the package is late and DOA if you purchase the insurance with it, but their base rates (without insurance) are always more too. So if you don't plan on buying the insurance, go with Reptiles Express.

Reptiles express may not be a sponsor, but they definitely go out of their way to help you if something is wrong. Debbie is really great.

Thanks for all the responses guys. Just wanted to see what some more experience members have done.

Sounds like SYR it is!

Personally i would always ALWAYS get the insurance.

its seriously only like a few bucks extra, ( like two or three extra) and is well worth it.

Even if your package is 20 minutes late, you can get a refund of your shipping cost.

And should there be a big issue, such as fedex cops a tude about delivering. the people at syr go to bat for you.

i once had a cham that was to be delivered at 10:30 am. at 1 he hadnt shown up.
long story short, fed ex lied to me and to the recipient, saying cham was on the wrong truck, the driver was working with the shipper to meet up (not true at all), and then they said well we will have to hold the package overnight and retry tomorrow.

SYR went to bat for me, and filed complaints up the wazoo about it.

now this is a one off, this doesnt usually happen, but thanks to the insurance, i got my money back

ALWAYS get the insurance.

Insulating the box will make the heat source bring the temperature up to a higher level during the journey too.;)
