Are you ready for International Bacon Day?

It's always the Saturday before Labor day, and no doubt there will be lots of festivals and celebration.
A pig wearing a crown leads the march with people juggling frying pans following!! (I'm making that up  ).

I'm ready!! got 2 pounds of bacon from a farmer's market, fresh tomatoes from my neighbor's garden, organicly grown Romain, and fresh rye bread.

Planning on a deluxe size BLT (whole pound of cooked bacon) with fries to celebrate :D

Hahahaha! The hubby and I just went to BaconFest last weekend. I was a little disappointed... this is going to sound crazy... but there wasn't nearly enough bacon! Everyone was trying to be fancy with bacon-infused this and bacon-scented that. Honestly, I just wanted some really good, local bacon. :D

Today is the day!!

Did you know you can cook your bacon in the oven??!!

Just get a cookie sheet, line it with slightly crumpled aluminum foil, lay the strips over it, and cook in a 425F oven, but do not pre-heat the oven.
Check it after 15 minutes or so.

Second best way to cook bacon involves some set up.

Get a large square griddle pan, lay your bacon in it, and place 2 cast iron bacon/burger presses on top, so they cover the bacon completely.
This makes the bacon cook faster, more evenly, shrinks less, and no annoying curling up at the ends (I hate it when that happens!!)

Enjoy :)

I find the best way to cook bacon is low and slow. I start with a tiny bit of oil in the frying pan. I use very low heat and a ton of patience. :) Although the bacon will have plenty of grease soon, the oil helps the process.

I turn the bacon often so it will not burn or cook too quickly. I like very crunchy bacon so this will take a while. It is worth the wait because the end product is crispy, delicious bacon without the burnt taste.

For an added bonus, you can increase the awesomeness that is bacon by making your sunny side up eggs in the bacon fat. (What could make an egg happier? :D)

Bacon is red
Bacon is rough
One strip of bacon
Is never enough

You know, I’m okay with celebrating bacon pretty much most days of the year.

I like it fatty and chewy!
Or crispy and dark!
Bacon is awesome!
This poem doesn't rhyme!

HAPPY INTL BACON DAY!!!!!

Triceros bachameleon

A rare specimen indeed. The chances of spotting one in the wild is almost nil as their native habitat has been systematically redeveloped into grocery stores.

I'll have to try that.
Does it still curl up at the ends if you cook it slow?

I hate that! the strips get cooked in the middle, but the ends are curled up, so you have to flatten them with a spatula and hold it down long enough to lay flat!!

Bacon is one of those things, nobody wants to cook it, but when they smell you cooking it, they want some too!!

Best to wait until everyone leaves, unless you don't mind sharing :)

My brother hates it when I cook bacon in the morning.
It wakes him up, and I hear him muttering various 4 letter words as he exits the house

I generally use a thicker cut bacon. I think the real thin stuff is going to try to curl no matter what. The thicker cut does not usually curl up but gets very crispy and tastes just amazing... Oh yeah, its bacon, of course it tastes amazing. ;)

You know how to make bacon even better???

Add more bacon! :D
