Replacing Bamboo Branches

I decided to start replacing the bamboo in my enclosures because I have noticed they will go around anything but the skinny branches completely. I assume its the smooth/hard texture and nothing their claws could attach to good enough. I never seen any fall or slip etc.. but just noticed they would not go across but certain trails.

I put in 2-3 tree branches for a day or 2 to see if they would use them or just stay to their routines. Well they used the new branches no problem, so I could only assume it was the bamboo. So I went harvesting some branches this weekend, and have redone 2 of the enclosures so far. The others will come this weekend.

The wife said If I re-did our house as much as I have the chameleons we would be living in suitcases pretty much!

Those enclosures look great!

Just a question, are you not concerned about leaving the bark on?

I've got the same problem with bamboo sticks at the moment, I'm thinking of getting some branches from out side, did you disinfect them at all? I've heard putting them in the freezer over night works to kill of parisites to

I left the bark on because these were live branches up till the time I cut them off my bradford pear tree. The bradford pear is one of the finest textured tree's and less susceptible to insect problems and since mine are healthy and needed pruning anyways.

I cut the limbs and stripped the branches leaves etc... and did a 10% bleach spray down then rinsed/dried and hung them. There are more than a few ppl on here who leave the bark on the branch, but I think that deals with the fact the limbs were live cut and not really a barky type branch if that makes sense?

Ah I see! Don't have a lot of trees around here lol! We did get a couple from our tree but scraped all the bark off and soaked them in boiling water. Was too paranoid :)

Love the new setups, Wykd. A good example of observing your pet's behaviour and adapting your setup :)

You can always sand the bamboo, it makes it tougher to keep clean but they find it easier to walk on.

Very nice looking setup. I too am always observing trying to make their setup the best way that they like it, adding branches here and there, and moving them around.
