Records Keeping

Do any of you keep written records of your chams? I do for my snakes. I keep a detailed record of when and how much they eat and details of their sheds. I also keep a record of their weight and length (which I do right after they shed).

If you do keep records what do you record? Pretty much the same info?

I was going to develop a small application for breeders to keep vital records once, but got lazy. Well that and I didn't know what information needed to be stored....so I kinda forgot about it.

Wow I didnt even think about recording the temperatures and feedings. I will probably add those to my sheets today and start recording those too.

Also clutches.

For each female:

date of mating and with who
date layed
how long to finish tunnel, lay and bury, etc.
how many eggs
incubation temps
length of incubation
hatch rate
hatch dates for individual neonates

As of right now I do not plan on mating my cham. But I am going to be making an extra spreadsheet with this information just in case I decide to at some point in the future. :) Thanks again!

I tried once, but didn't keep up with it. I generally note shed dates. I once started keeping a thorough record of how much I spent on the cham over the year (food, vet if needed, etc.), but didn't keep up with that, either. Should try again.

I do - a record for every day. Includes how many of each feeder eaten, how many mistings, which supplements, poop & urates and what they looked like. It has helped a great deal to look back on and refer to! I also note when shedding occurs and over how many days, also any change of colouring, wether I see her drinking, outside sun time, etc.

It's been very useful. I thought it was just me and my love for filling in forms!!

I am not very good with the day to day, however I weigh my chams 1x/mo and record the weights. I do record mating, laying and clutch information. I will have more info when the neonates start hatching. I also have a clutch sheet which will record where neonates go once sold.

I was thinking of developing an app to manage this and the stats from my reef aquarium. Maybe we can come up with master list of items to log and I can incorporate them.

Thanks,

Luis

That would be so cool Luis. I use a spread sheet and have 3 worksheets I keep up. It would be nice to know Access so I could fill in information on a form and it would go into my database. Would be easier to read when I wanted info such as "Average time for incubation". Etc.

I track what he food he is given, what supplements are on the food, what he eats of what is offered, when he eliminates and make a note if here is anything odd (runny, bigger or smaller than normal, urate not fully white), if he is seen drinking (shy about drinking in front of me usually), temperature readings High/Low ambient day and night (got an automatic guage that does this for me) and temp of basking spot checked weekly, and I make note of significant behaviour changes (more aggressive (usually isnt at all agreesive), considerably less movement).

I was developing a web / DB app using mySQL. Could be cool to start up.

We you using PHP with it? The only thing I fear about that is how accessible would it be for folks to install on their own. Though a web app is what I usually prefer, maybe not in this case? Thoughts?

I would love something that I could input information into and it would track it all. Maybe making the program adaptable for other animals/herps too would be ideal.
