Rancho Theromstat

Friendly Grasshopper
so i have heard from a few people about rancho thermostats and have even found a few pics of them wired up to a power bar and wall plug.
however i cannont seem to find a website for them.
if anyone has a link as to where i can get some as well as possibly a how to on wiring one up to a power bar/surge protector that would really help.
thanks alot

thank you soooo much that is exactly what i wanted, urrgghhh they arent cheap tho lol, and i want to of the double units i think, ( they look safe;) )

That is way over priced IMO.... You can wire them your self they come with everything to tell you how to do it..... And you can find them on Amazon,eBay,Craigslist....for way cheaper then go down to your local hardware store and get a power strip....

I built my incubator for 120 bucks.... Winecooler 60 bucks Craigslist, ranco thermostate 40 bucks eBay,and power strip 20 bucks at the hardware store.

what size cooler do you have? Do you wish you would have gone bigger?

i work for futureshop and we sell coolers so i am getting the BIG!!! one i think it is about 3.5-4x2x2 so it should do.
glass doors ambient light woohoo, my gf want to put wine in it WTF:rolleyes:;):D

thanks alot

The ranco has a heat and cool setting marked in the screen h or c. I mount the temp prob.on the cooling plate in the summer and in turns off and on slowly cooling the area to the right temp and you can set the degrees of witch you would allow it to move in temp. Like 2 degrees past 75 or 2 degrees behind. In the winter I have a 11 in. Piece of heat tap on the door I move the temp prob. To the heat tape plug in the heat tape unplug the cooler and set the ranco to the h for heat control.... It is a on off controller the only way to go.... With the spiderrobotics and herp a stat. And all others are only ment to control heat only and it is a reduce in energy to the unit you are trying to control and run witch means it never turns off it keeps cooling or heating no matter what it just the amount of heat it puts out is all it controles... I have tryed them and waisted a lot of money on those units just to find out that...

Let me clear up a few things on my last post I get to rambling and get a head of my self sometime lol....
The ranco thermostate is a on/off unit controler. That's why I mount the prob to the source of heat or cooling I am trying to control. It also allows you to choose to heat or cool and allows for temp swings if you want to.
The spiderrobitcs and herpastat and most others. Are NOT a on / off controler. How they work is they only monitor heat if the temp drops below set temp it puts more power to the heat tape to get it back to temp then it reduces power but never turns off to control the set temp. They do not see and are not ment to read hot air to cool they won't do it unless you gut and rebuild and program them . They just are not designed for that in any way. And if you need heat and no cooling just get a reptibator. It's cheaper and will work just as good.if you need something to heat and cool and be able to monitor and switch to what you need ranco thermostates is the one you need.. I am telling you all this from my experience and lost funds trying to make a better incubator... Hope all this helps.... Sorry for rambling again lol.

i am thinking of setting up 2 rancho 1 set to cool at say 75 and plugged into the wine cooler to controll cold,
and another set to heat at say 65 and plugged into some heat tape.
that way i figure if it goes above 75 the thermo, will turn on the cooler, and if it is below the cooler will be off.
and if it gets cold and goes below 65 the other thermo will turn on the heat tape and heat.
i think this should work to maintain a specific temp, i will have to experiment and see how narrow i can get the temp range without both running, but im hopeing about a 3-6 deg window.
any thoughts???

I tryed it ... It may work for you but they keap fighting each other on temp for me and I could never get that set up to work right if you set your ranco to 75 you can go 70 to 80 in a temp swing and anything in that range but only up to and down to 5 degrees from set temp.

kinda figured it might be to tricky, but i think ill try, i can think of a million uses for these things so having a few extra kicking around cant hurt :)
thanks for all the input, it was you who got me started on this ;):D
