Chamel is on a distinguished road
Question Pygmy Eggs

Alright I know this has been asked and answered a thousand times but I figured I'd ask for myself as I seem to need a little more help than the average person. I just bought my first chameleon two days ago... she is a pygmy and I have a pretty sweet setup for her if I do say so. Anyways, the day after I bought her I found eggs laid right by the door to my vivarium about an inch deep into the soil. I bought the only chameleon in the cage but she was housed with another prior to me buying her. The eggs were obviously laid before I had her... now that I think about it i could even have the male, but from doing some research i think i have the female. To get to the point I have no experience in setting up an incubator and I definitely want to try and hatch the eggs especially cause there are only three of them. Does anyone have personal experience with hatching pygmy eggs? I am assuming that setting up the incubator is fairly the same with most types of chams? Any help would be appreciated... right now I have left the eggs in the viv which has a temp of 74 and a humidity of 90 (it is near midnight). I don't know how far along the eggs are and I am considering leaving them where they are at because they look healthy. Thanks!

Congratulations on the newest addition to your family!

Many people simply leave the eggs in the vivarium. Pygmy eggs actually are incubated at room temperature. Most people who remove the eggs, place them in vermiculite or perlite (I simply used sterile soil and washed sand combo) in a small plastic container with a lid and place the container in a drawer or cabinet. Keeping the laying medium moist, not wet, is the biggest concern. And don't forget about them! They hatch in 60-75 days.

Since you don't know how long they've been there, I would probably recommend leaving them where they are. But someone with more experience with this should chime in. Just do not let the soil dry out. And keep an eye out for hatchlings, as they may encounter difficulties with the adult cham or larger feeders. If you do move them, be very careful to NOT rotate the eggs. They must be moved and placed in their new container in the exact upright position they are in now.
