Preparing for a female veiled. :)

Well I think I'll be getting a female veiled on Thursday.
I've been reading up on the KittyBlog, but I'm not really understanding the whole egg laying bit.

Could someone give me a general summary on what to put in a female cage that is different from a male's?

All help is appreciated. :)

This will be my first female. :) Wish me luck!

Here are some pictures of her!

Obviously a laying bin at least 12 inches deep, and a way to get down to it. :)

Congrats on the possible new addition. Do you know where you are getting it from yet?

Wow 12 inches? I figured a smaller bin for her to dig in until she is ready to lay would be fine, I read that somewhere on here.

I'm getting her from a forum member op17, I'll try to find the pictures of her.

edit: Re-edited the top post to put the link in. :)

it really depends on how old your female is , mine is about to turn ten months and still hasn't had a clutch. i figured that when they show receptive colors or show signs of being pregnant than you should have an egg bin.

The only reason I'm getting one is to help a friend out, and because I have some room. :)

You'll need a double fluorescent hood over the cage with a tube/linear Repti-sun 5.0 and a regular white fluorescent tube light.....one of each. This maintains the temperature in the low 80's at the warmest end of the cage. I keep my female between 80 and 82. No basking light. You will also only feed her every 2 to 3 days 6 to 8 feeders depending on the size. I feed my chams 3 times a week.

Thanks Jann! That's the best explanation I've gotten so far. I just recently acquired 4 36" UVB tubes, so I was going to have all the cages in the same spot (vision barriers of course) and that fluorescent idea is great.

2 to 3 days? I'm guessing this has to do with egg laying!

Thanks again. :)
