Hey! My name is Madison, and I'm from Canada.
I'm new to this forum, as well as to owning a chameleon!
I just wanted to say a quick introduction for myself, as well as my baby Veiled chameleon, Pleakley!
I've only had him for about a week and a half. My family and I got him at a Pet Expo, as my mom has always dreamed of having one. I wasn't too happy with where we got him, as the lady who sold him to us was really just looking for a sale, as opposed to a good home. I know if I had my time back I would have gone elsewhere.
I'm really glad I have friends who have had experience with chameleons as the seller did't give us any information on the care for Pleakley, so I'm still learning.
From what she told us, he is two months old, but since then I've had a few people comment that he seems too small, and might be closer to a month old.
Last week it was hard not to bring him out of his habitat, but I knew he was just getting used to a whole bunch of new stuff and I didn't want to freak him out any further, and I've learned that chameleons aren't usually the most social, and not all of them like to be handled.
I have had to handle him when we added new things into his habitat (vines and such that have to be manipulated into shape). I'm really happy to see a change in how he acts now; before he used to get all miffed, changing into deep patterns and running like crazy, but now he stays a happy green and sits contently.
I've been feeding him gut-loaded crickets (3/8 at first, but he was having such a hard time with those I quickly switched to pinheads), and he's tried both a waxworm and a butterworm!
The only thing I've been having a bit of trouble with is humidity. I chose a mesh habitat for him, as that was what is most recommended, and it just hasn't been holding the moisture. I'm at work most times, though there is an hour or so in between jobs when I am home. I do have two brothers who are home constantly who will mist him during the day, yet it still seems like I am constantly fighting to keep the humidity above 50.
And of course... Pics!
