Pit Bull Discussion

I would never suggest to ANYONE to purchase a pit bull, maybe I just had a bad one, but mine was a bitch, she was a blue nose, we had to get her put down at 3 cause of her agression.

I knew other people with Pits, they were never this bad, I think ours just had problems, we have owned tons of dogs so it's not like we didn't know what we were doing, she was just untrainabl, we tried and tried for 3 years, then she attacked a family member pretty bad and that was the tipping point.

This is not the correct thread to discuss Pitbull personality. This day and time, it's impossible for anyone interested in keeping Pitbulls to not know about their generally flawed characteristic. As with many exotic pets (snakes, crocs, spiders, etc), their are potential dangers involved, but it does not make them any less of a pet, or potential member of a family, just one that demands more safety, understanding and respect.

Good luck finding a good home.

To discuss Pitbulls a new thread can be opened in the correct forum.

Owners are to blame for their dogs, Pit Bulls are sweet and affectionate animals. And please don't dispute about the breed, this is a for sale ad. Thank you.

In case anyone is confused about how this conversation started, this thread spilled over from a classified ad.

mindless - That is quite possibly the most ignorant post I have come acrosse so far on this forum. A dogs personality is 100% reflective on its owner. If you had a problem with her agression, you clearly neglected her and have no business owning her to begin with. Sorry it didnt work out, but your comment really bothers me.

Whoa-100% reflective on it's owner???? Absolutley not true. It is entirely possible that something was wrong with that dog. The best trainers in the world may have been defeated. Now, I am not familiar with the dog, or how it was trained or handled, but you just cannot make a statement like that about animals or even people. Case in point....sitting next to me is Ross the English Bulldog. I picked Ross out at 2 days old, had weekly visitation until bringing him home at 9 weeks, and he was raised with my 3 kids that were 2,5 and 8 at the time. My kids were extremely respectful of dogs, I was raised in a home of show and obedience trained Bearded Collies, and both kids and Ross were highly adult supervised at all times. At about 6 months old Ross decided that he would hate, kill, and eat all kids other than mine. Now, for 10 years we have managed to keep Ross very separate from the kid population with no issues, and as Ross is now blind he is no longer a threat. But no amount of training convinced him that kids were not a tasty snack. He has always been fine with teenagers and adults of any kind. As for Pit Bulls, they often have a high prey and dog-aggression side, but so can many other dogs. I have a 10 year old Pit-Lab mix that is friendly as all can be, but would probably eat a small dog, or happily fight with another. No dog park for her. Many, many well behaved Pits go to the dog park, and many poorly raised Pits with less than intelligent owners. Just ask Mike my Great Dane puppy that was savagely attacked by a Pit/Shepard mix in January requring 7 staples to the thigh. Bad owners, and an aggressive dog possibly with little to no training or simply a highly aggressive dog-who is to say? Look at the animal shelters, if Pits were an easily trained dog, there would not be shelters full of them in every city.

I would like to put my 2 cents in. Pitbulls are no way are anymore aggressive than any other breed. You just dont hear about the other breeds being as aggressive. Years ago people had problems with Rotts, and before then Dobermans, and before them, yadda yadda yadda....This comes from about 18 years of being around all different breeds of animals. You know what the number 1 size muzzled used in veterinary clinics is????????????? Anyone?????

SMALL, now I must say that Pitbulls do not wear small muzzles. Shoot I have a corgi, Boxer, and a poodle and take a guess at which one is the aggressor??? The Poodle. There are more small breeds of animals that are much more aggresive than a pittbull, but when these small dogs attack they do not get all the attention that a larger dog does, why is that?
