Otto's last photo shoot...

Well..probably not his very last shoot. In short, I'm going to be saying goodbye to Otto in the next little while, more on that later. But this weekend I was attempting to add a branch to his enclosure, which is always met with dismay...

He really doesn't like it when I re-decorate.

He really doesn't like me at all either. But I've really enjoyed my last year spent with him, although it will be a sad goodbye, he's going to a very good place which I'll post about when the time comes.

Wow, thats got to be sad.
Its omething about the love/hate relationship with Veileds.
He sure is a handsome Veiled too.
Did you get to breed him before he leaves?
Great pictures!

Thanks for the comments!

The story is that I've pretty much always wanted a panther, but took everyone's advice to start with a veiled. I've loved raising Otto. And I'm not at all sorry that I got him, but I've essentially been bitten by the chameleon bug, and I still really want a panther but I have zero room to expand. So I have a bit of a trade going on in the next couple weeks with a memeber of this forum. Otto will get to sow his wild oats, living in a small harem, and I'll get to experience owning an ambilobe.

So that's the story in an nutshell. I'll probably take more photos during the transition. It's kind of bittersweet, but I'm also excited.

It's like watching your chameleon grow up and go to college...

..or a gentleman's club, whatever. ;)

Panthers are great, now i dont blame you for missing such a beutiful veiled! But the panther im sure will be a joy to have:)

He looks like he is giving you a 2 finger salute in the third picture down....thats cham 'affection' for you!

Well I think you should follow your dreams ... and I am glad you were able to secure a great situation for him ....

I'd keep the veiled;)

I am so lucky :)

Hey there everyone! I've been gone for a long time....My husband is writing a book and I'm editing his work and compiling about 500 photos and scans that go into the book. I just have not had the time to do anything for myself other than care for my chameleons. I'll be back once the book goes out to the publisher.

Anyway, I am going to be the lucky new owner of Otto. Royden is doing some original artwork for me. Not all of you may know how talented Royden is. His artwork is exceptional. He is getting a male Ambilobe in return. He only has room for one chameleon. I am taking Otto so he can take the Ambilobe. Royden would not part with Otto unless he knew he was going to a good home. I have a beautiful female waiting for Otto so he will have a chance to pass on his outstanding handsome good looks.

I live about 1 1/2 hours away from Royden. He will be able to visit Otto and, if he is ever in a position to expand his collection, Royden is welcome to take Otto back. Or he can have an Otto Jr. someday.....I've got a male Ankaramy that belongs to another friend on a long-term vacation at my house. I have a breeding group of Hydrosaurus lizards that I own on a long-term vacation with a friend in Florida. It's not that unusual for reptiles to circulate among friends like that. Otto is going to get a change of scenery with a lot of other chameleons to look at and several breeding females to breed with. I think he is going to enjoy my household. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to have him. I love fiesty males and Otto looks like he has plenty of personality :)

Thanks for chiming in Catherine! I was hoping you would.

Catherine and I apparently have one of those agreements where we both think we're getting the better end of the deal. From my perspective, I have a veiled that I care about very much that's going to one of the few owners I would've hand picked from this community. And on top of that she found me my dream ambilobe!

On top of that I'm doing a painting for her, which I love doing anyway!

Unfortunately, Otto's going through a little Trichomonas treatment right now, but hopefully he'll be in tip top shape before the big move.

Thats a really nice veiled.
I get attached to my pets too.
They have such personalities, cham's especially.

Hope things work out.

Chiming in again...

Yes, Otto will need to be STD free before breeding.....Trichomonas is much more common in chameleons than many keepers realize. It's super common in other reptiles like iguanas. There are probably very few iguanas sold in the pet trade that don't have Trichomonas these days. Otto's first female is going to be a wild caught female named Zora. She was gravid when I got her and laid a beautiful clutch of eggs. She has almost recovered from that and will be ready to breed again when Otto is ready. Sorry Otto, you don't get a virgin......but experience can be a plus.....Tee Hee :)
