My female, Asha gave birth to a clutch of 8 babies this morning. I'll attach some photos below, but I was wondering if anyone had any tips on raising these little guys? I've done a fair amount of research, but you all seem to have lots of helpful hints as well! Anything is appreciated!!

Is it normal for them to sleep during the day on the day they're born? Also, non of them are interested in eating...is this normal??

The first day is a little rough on them. Most babies start eating after the first day. Keep lots of small food on hand. Fruit flies, pinheads, if you can find them aphids. Little guys dry out really easy so try to keep the humidity up without always spraying. A humidifier helps a lot.

Thanks so much for the info Carl! Should I worry that they aren't really interested in drinking yet either? I have 3 now out of 8 that aren't looking like they're going to make it. The other 5 seem healthy though, but aren't eating or drinking, at least not in front of me.

Livebearer babies can be heart breakers.

I never expect to see much of any activity the first day. The second day they've used up any left over yolk and are starting to get hungry. Give them some time before they eat and drink in front of you.

No you did the right thing cleaning up. Sometimes the babies will have small amounts of yolk left at the ambilical that they will carry around until they absord it or it dries up and falls off.

okay so 2 out of the three that weren't doing well died overnight. That was to be expected. 5 of them still seem to be doing well and one is still trying his best to make it. Should I be worried that they aren't moving around today either? They've all been in the same place since I turned their lights on. I did notice my biggest guy have a drink though! :)

They're also still falling asleep. Since I'm new to babies all of this is really concerning me. lol

Yes, Cait he's made a comeback and is doing well! He has one eye that won't open though, and I posted a thread about it last night but no one has responded (no one ever responds to my threads until i post a comment 2 or 3 times, SO frustrating!!). Hopefully someone can help me soon! I feel bad for the poor wee guy!

You could try wiping the eye with sterile saline solution and a q-tip. Keeping the cage humid will really help also.

Glad to hear he's getting better!

Update: My one little guy that had the eye problem passed away yesterday. He is now buried in our front garden- I didn't have the heart to throw him in the garbage. Its unfortunate, but inevitable. There's also another one that I have yet to see eat, and is really quite skinny. I think his days are also numbered...:(

On a lighter note, I have 4 babies that have plump little bellies and are doing great! My biggest baby even has a tinge of green to her/ him now! GO LITTLE BABIES!!!

I'm going to clean their deli cups today and I'll see if I can get some updated photos of them for everyone to see. Their 2 week birthday was yesterday! :)

So my other little baby that wasn't doing well passed away yesterday morning. I'm waiting for the torrential downpour to stop outside and he will be buried outside along with his sibling. The 4 I have left are thriving and growing like weeds! Wish I could keep them all, but unfortunately I have a husband that keeps my animal hoarding in check

Anywho, here's the link to the updated photos of my babies! Enjoy everyone!
