Location - Where are you geographically located?
San Antonio, Tx

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.

Mostly just concerned with his shyness, I think, unless behavior points to health issue.
Only physically seen eat once. Seems to have eaten a couple crickets in my absence.
Saw him opening his mouth and sort of swaying. There is nothing he can choke on inside of his husbandry, as not even the fake plants are easy to rip. But, as mentioned above he was housed previously in a cage with reptibark.
I have only noticed him doing that once. I notice he sways alot when we approach his cage, but I believe that may be his camoflauge mechanism?
Also, I noticed he seemed to kind of rub his face against the leaves at one point.
His eyes look full i believe. And his bones seem straight. I would like to know how I'm Doing, as I barely got him. He is my 2nd cham but first Jackson's and youngest I have handled. Thank you!

I think your set up seems pretty good. I am local to you and lucky for you I also breed hornworms for our local chameleon keepers, and try to have silks as well. If you are interested in trying some dubias I can help you out as well. I have researched quit a bit for our jackson and would be happy to help you. I am most interested in nutrition and water, but do also know about general Jackson husbandry.

He is a really good looking jax. But anyways just give him his space. I give mine at least 2 weeks before i really try to handle them or anything. As far as eating he might not want to eat in front of you thats just how some chams are. But give hime space and time so he can get used to his new enviroment and then he will open up to you. My male jax was super shy when i first got him now he eats from my hand and i even take him on my shoulder to the pet store to get crickets.

Hello! thanks for the reply :) cool, yes I did do alot of research before getting him. I used this https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/hoj/634-montane-chameleon-care-info.html blog, as well as other care sheets, and fellow cham forum threads.

You have come to the right place. Our jackson is still a bit shy, but does tolerate handling and loves to come out on his free range. He is a real character and will hand feed. He does love a variety of food. I have some extra blue bottle fly pupae if you want to try those as well. I am not going through them like I thought I would, and our jackson LOVEs them.

Thanks! I will definitely try doing that more too. I have just been goin in to check on him from a distance and just mist him a bit. I ended up putting a dish up in his branches with a superworm in case he can't find the crickets. He is so tiny ( I forgot to mention), compared to the fischer cham I used to have. I hope he will grow fast :)

Thanks that's awesome, I'll definitely let you know if I need some! I'll keep monitoring his behavior. So far, I guess he hasn't done anything too out of the ordinary, besides what I mentioned. :)

Yeah they are not huge chams like panthers or veileds. Mine is prolly 10 months old and has barely grown since 6 months. Just try not to check on him as much except to water and feed him. I promise he will be fine

Yes, let me know soon. the blue bottle fly pupae I have are approaching their expiration. I will just give them to you. I also have some small horn worms that your guy will no doubt love.

Thanks guys :) do they usually eat every day? I only saw him eat once hopefully he did eat some food and those crickets weren't just hiding.

He looks great.....and adorable!
Love those long horns.

Jackson's are typically shy, some more than others.
Most chams takes a while to get used to their new environment and some don't eat much for the first week.

Here's one caresheet that is new and has some details that might have been missing from others:

Thank you! Yes he is super shy. Okay that is comforting to know :), as I couldn't really remember how my first cham acted when I first got him lol. I will definitely read that caresheet, for some more info. Thank you everyone again! :)
