New tank build

I modified a tank I made 10 years ago and hope it will be large enough to house at least a trio. The dimensions are 24 1/2 wide, 16 deep, and 18 tall inside the tank. The gap just below the door is a vent made from tiny holes drilled into a piece of plexiglass. All screws used are stainless so no rust. Wood for the front frame, top and bottom is mahogany. Door frame is curly maple, and the feet are brazilian walnut. All coated well with polyurethane. I plan to put plants in the tank today so I will update this thread when completed. Let me know what you think.

Fully planted!

Filled it up with some cool plants, put the light ontop so ready to go! Anyone got pygmys? Let me know what you think.

That looks great! It's still a little sparse until some of the plants grow in. Maybe the addition of a very bushy plant in the middle would be a good addition. My pygs tend to be more visible in the parts that have more vegetation because they feel safe enough being surrounded by cover to venture out more, as ironic as that sounds. Plus you always want to have a visual barrier so they are not in constant sight of each other - especially if you want to have a male and female in the same cage. Right now a pyg on one side could see a pyg on the other side and that will cause stress of they can never hide from each other. But it looks really nice otherwise! I love the little tree thing and the rest of the decor, and the cage looks fabulous! Very professionally done for sure! Once that fills in it's going to be a pyg paradise!

That is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. I will add some more plants to get some visual barriers in place. The plants I have in there will not grow very quickly I think so I may be waiting a long time for it to fill in. Thanks!

Brian that is fantastic. What kind of tree is that in the back right corner? looks like a ficus bonsai? Nice plant, in fact, your whole set up it great. What are the dimensions and how many pygmy's are you going to start with? What kind of pygmy's are you getting? I can't wait to see is full of tiny little ones. I hope you get a couple gravid ones.

Hey Laurie. The back right plant is an Aralia. The one in the middle in the back is a ficus. Demensions are 24 1/2 x 16x18
I am not sure what kind I am getting yet. I think I want to try Rhampholeon spectrum. Probably 3 females and 1 male and see what happens. I will definitly update this thread when I have them in there.

I am thinking about getting a pair of Rhampholeon Acuminatus and was wondering if the enclosure I built recently would be sufficient to house a pair, or if they should be kept separately. Anyone with experience please reply to this thread or PM me. Thanks!

I think it's too bright. Take out one of the fluorescent lamps or add something with shade on one end of the tank. The small chams really spend a lot of time in the shade, out of direct sunlight.

I changed my lighting last week and added more plants today. Should be more shade spots now and not quite as bright. I plan to build a hood to raise the LED lights a little so it will be even less bright.
