New Owner of a Baby Veiled Male

I received a baby veiled chameleon yesterday (4-6 weeks old). How long will it take for the baby to get settled into it's cage? It slept on the screen last night, and as it walks around it's habitat, it's color is a dark green, almost black color. From what I know, doesn't this mean the chameleon is stressed and nervous? Is there a way to make it more relaxed? Should I cover the cage with a sheet (leaving at least 2 sides open for ventilation)? Please let me know. I have fruit flies to feed it, and I'm getting small crickets and phoenix and wax worms as well. Thanks for your help.

Often the dark color means that the chameleon is cold.
What is the temp in his enclosure?
What kind of lighting do you have for him?

well, I don't have one of those thermometers, but the thermostat in my living room is set at 73 (where the Chameleon is caged), and I have a bright 100w basking light as well (10" away from the cage at one end). The chameleon has yet to bask... I haven't seen it yet. But right now I'm at work...I can put a red heat lamp aimed at the cage as well to heat it up... I'll keep it at least 12" away from the screen so as not to burn the the chameleon...

The basking lamp you have should be fine and you need to get a thermometer.
100 watts might be to hot, but depending on where it is placed you really need the thermometer to know for sure.
You also need to get a uva/uvb light on him.
Skip the red heat lamp.
I would recommend going through older posts on this forum a lot has been said about this and other things you need to know.
It's the fastest way to catch up on your research.

oh yeah... I do have a Reptisun 5.0 lights... actually a dual bulb Florecent fixture. The 100 watt bulb is a good enough distance away from the cage, and I can always move it further so as not to burn the chameleon.

How big is his enclosure?
Sounds like lighting should be okay.
Is he eating/drinking?
Has he pooped?
Is there sufficient greenery to provide him with the security of cover?
He may just need some time to adjust.

yeah, I saw him eating and drinking this morning before I left for work... not sure he pooped yet... but I'm sure he will soon. I'm going to raise the room temperature a bit so he can heat up more.

I would suggest a digital thermometer/hydrometer. They range in price from $12-50. It should have two temperature zones. One measured at the read out and a probe for the other. The read out (base) should be mounted to give you the ambient temperature. The probe should be mounted in the basking area. The humidity will be measure from wherever you mount the base in the cage. You do not really have to buy an expensive one or anything. I found mine for $14 with all three of these.
