New to the forums and new to owning a chameleon. My names is Jeffrey and Eleanor is my beautiful flap neck chameleon I bought, technically, two days ago. So far, I everything seems great with her, I was gonna post another thread asking for suggestions or an input on how I am doing with caring for her. The person I bought Eleanor from is a breeder that owns a store. Gave me what I needed. Although, I think he may have failed since he failed to mention the calcium i need to give her and how many crickets I should feed her a day.

She's a small-(almost) medium sized. She's been eating, I hope drinking since I mist her with distilled water about 4 times a day. Today l she drank tap water and afterwards started crawling on my face, I don't know if should've done that or not. I'm am however gonna start misting once every hour. I do have a bowl of water I added in today.

Enclosure is a standard. Has vines, leaves, and bedding. UVB light and a 75 Walt black light. The black light is now on all day, for warm nights, last night may have been too cold for her. Didn't drop below 50 but was in the low 60s. I want to get a hear rock for her, don't know of that's a good idea.

Anything I'm doing wrong or need to fix?

Hi and welcome! The Heat rock and black light at night is not a good idea, they need complete darkness at night to sleep properly, if you need heat at night get a ceramic heat emmiter, that's just heat no light. Good luck! Laurie's link will be helpfull!

Welcome to the forums. You have come to the right place to learn about chamrleons. I have a Gracefull and they are very much like Flaps. Eleanor is beautiful. Please read the care sheet above so that you can keep her healthy. You have received some good advise so far above but you still need to change a few more things in the way you are keeping her if you want her to live be healthy. Most pet store employees do not know how to keep chameleons but the senior members here have been keeping them alive and healthy for years.

I keep my Graceful just about the same way I keep my veileds. The only difference is I keep the humidity a bit higher by using a cool mist humidifier. You don't want to mist that many times a day because the enclosure needs to dry out between each misting. I'm also attaching my blog for how I keep my veileds and maybe you will find it useful too.

Thank y'all! That page was very useful and so was y'all's input on the blacklight. I will be getting a ciramic heat emitter! And to begone with the black light at night. If I am doing anything else wrong, please, don't hesitate to say something. It will be very helpful.

Hi, congrats on your new chameleon. She is very cute! I wanted to add one more thing. You mentioned using bedding. Most of us don't use any sort of bedding because it harbors bacteria and can get moldy with the frequent mistings. Also, bedding can be easily swallowed and can cause blockages that can cause serious health issues. I recommend removing that. You can line the bottom with paper towels or just leave it bare.

Everyone has given you great advice. If you can correct your problems early you and Eleanor will be on the right track!
