Nekton Rep

Does anyone use this product? My Vet swears by it and told me that all the Zoos use this product as well. You just sprinkle a tiny amount on your water crystals and let your crickets gutload on it as well. I think I'm going to start using it.

Any thoughts or experiences with the product?

I used Nekton Rep many years ago...the forumula may have changed...but I had a few cases of MBD then. I don't really know if the Nekton Rep was the cause or not though.

I am having a hard time contacting NY Worms that carries this. Does anyone else use it and if so, what supplier within the US has it?

Thank you

I used to use it. If I recall, the Vitamin A content was astronoical - there was 100:1 or 1000:1 or even a 10,000:1 ratio of Vitamin A to D3. I can't remember - I'll have to find the old bottle. I still have a 20+ year old bottle of the stuff somewhere...

I have been using Nekton-Rep (non-color-enhancing formula) for years, and is a standard at both zoological institutions I have worked for. It contains pre-formed vitamin A as well as D3, so I only use it once a month (every two weeks on gravid and young).

Many Phelsuma keepers swear by it as do avian enthusiasts. I have also heard one or two reports of metabolic issues in some reptiles, as Lynda mentioned, but considering the complexity of supplementation and nutrition, those cases could have been caused by a number other factors, such as improper imbalance of D3, Ca & vitamin A in the overall nutritional protocol (gutload, additional dusts, etc).

Nekton products have a very strong fruit-like scent and are supposed to be quite palatable-- I cannot confirm the latter.

Cheers,

Fabián

EDIT: Amy, I get mine from NYworms, but it's also advertised here.

It's chalky but palatable I'm not sure about. :p

I use both Nekton REP (twice monthly) and Nekton MSA (only after laying eggs or in cases of rescue and malnutrition). It's what I used 15 years ago when I first kept chameleons and it was the first supp I picked up when I entered back into the hobby. I've never had any issues with them but, as far as their effectiveness, well, I guess thats hard to quantify. My animals animals thrive and haven't had any reactions to it.
