Need help chosing!

So I want to get a vieled chameleon or panther, can you guys tell me what makes the panther so much better? I'd love to buy one online as a baby but lllreptiles can't promise a male and it seems females are a pain which is what makes me want to get a vieled so I knew I'm getting a male, Also should I get the biobubble chameleon tank they look so cool? Would it be okay as a starter tank for a baby or what should I get for my baby chameleon I get? I'd like the cage to be big enough to last a few months. I've seen some super beautiful amibole panthers but I'd hate to get a female one and if I wanted to make sure I got a male it would cost almost $100 more. Could anyone post links to great websites that have tanks or should I just stick to the biobubble? Currently a baby amibole panther would cost $204 to get and it's 50/50 girl or boy...females seem to not be as pretty, nesting might cause problems, and die earlier apparently.

The biobubble enclosure doesn't provide adequate air flow for chameleons let alone much else really,I would get a Zoomed open air screen enclosure, it's perfectly suited for a chameleon and comes in lots of sizes. They don't break the bank either.

The Cantina is for decoration-- it's not a good cage at all-- their chameleon water fountain is awesome.

I have a Panther and a Veiled-- Panther is more, by $180/200 dollars more. Females are more for breeding-- males live longer and colourful in most case.

Veiled Chameleons are more aggressive by nature may take more time to tame vs. Panthers in most case are a lot more chilled. It all varies on their personalities-- they're more of a complex reptile than most.

- do not get a glass enclosure. get a screen enclosure and invest in an automated mister and learn how to breed feeder insects you should be set.

Anyone have good links to where I can get a baby male amibole panther? I found a great deal $160 but they can't promise if it's a guy or gal...I really want one but do not want a female at all. But don't wanna spend another $100 just for a male when I could just get a male vieled for 1/3 the price and just use the money save to make a even better cage etc.

You could try to find an older Panther. Over 6 months and it very obvious if it's male or female.

The Cantina is a death trap for either breed.

I'm not trying to be cruel but I have to say chameleons are an expensive pet. If you are worried about the cost of the animal just wait until you add up what you shelled out in the first year. The 300$ I spent on my panther is pocket change in comparison.

If you're handy you can always hand build an enclosure, that what I did and it turned out awesome and budget friendly.

i got my 7 weeks old panther from petco becuase i did a rescue mission on them. you want something older man, raising them from that little takes time and patience.

learn how to breed feeders, you'll $save in the long run because their food is expensive on monthly basis.

I just saw a post on here. Male Panthers for 180$. You could have them send you picture and then post it on the forum for confirmation that it is indeed a male. I still vote for one a little older, you could start with a large enclosure. A lot of that first year cost is having to upgrade to the large enclosure.

That is wise advice.
You will save money by buying a juvenile, rather than a baby and a juvenile will be hardier than a baby.
It would be good to buy from a reputable breeder, since you will then be getting a captive bred chameleon, which will likely be healthier than a wild caught chameleon.
Have a look on the Classifieds and you will see the male babies for $180 that MamatoElvis mentions, as well as other offers of chams.

I have noth a veiled and a panther, I know a lot of people say veileds are more aggressive in nature, but my Ziggy is a *****cat, he's almost a year old and he's NEVER displayed any kind of aggression towards me. I've had 3 veileds in total and I've always found them to be very docile and "sociable", but that may very well be just my experience and luck of the draw. Veileds are a hardy species and ideal if you're new to keeping chameleons, and descerning males from females is usually easy when they're young, where as in the case of panthers it's a gamble. In June I purchase a "male" panther from a well-known breeder at a reptile show not far from me, I asked several times and spoke of how I'd read of people buying panthers from males and often the chameleon has been mis-sexed, which is exactly what happened to me despite is assurances that it was 100% male. Fortunately however I found him at another show a few weeks ago and he was kind enough to swap the female for a male like I'd actually paid for.

As for the enclosure, the medium sized Reptibreeze is of an adequate size for young chameleons and will last for a good while before you have to upgrade to the adult enclosure, and fortunately they're not bad in price either and they provide adequate air-flow.

My advice is to go to one of the reputable breeder websites, like Kammerflage, and choose the precise bloodline that you want. You can get a male from them with 100% certainty, and then you hope it will look something like the sire. They also have "starter kits" which will have everything you need. Also, everything won't cost you $600, but probably about half of that depending of course on which sire you choose.

Check out the list of sponsors to buy a Cham. Don't get it from a pet store. There are some breeders that specialize in Veileds and some in panthers. They are all reputable breeders. You can chose the chameleon you want. They will make sure you get a male. You will know the bloodline of your chameleon. If you buy it from a breeder you have a person to call for advice.
