Thanks guys!

I knew I could count on you guys ;)

The animal seems to be in good condition, I cant find anything that looks "off" or "iffy", and it doesnt seem to mind being handled.

It came to me in a maybe 40g long, with a plastic hide, and water dish. Oh, and a broken heating pad.
I think it was not kept very warm for at least a little while. Im using a 75w incandescent on it, and it has came out to bask and such.

I cleaned out its tank (it was obvious it hadnt been done in some time) and it passed a stool today. Which seemed healthy in my inexperienced opinion.

I now have it setup thusly:

I may move it to a 2x2x4 though, if they will do all the climbing and such as stated, that would be cool.

Thanks again!

PS: If its passed a stool today, and I have no idea when it last ate, should I go ahead and offer it food?

Awesome looking snake - best of luck with him! Great setup too, think he's going to feel like he's died and gone to snake heaven! :D

If brooks are anything like a black and white banded. They arent classfied as arboreal but in my experiences they will use every square inch of cage. Mine would often perch on the vines for long periods which i thought was pretty awesome.

King snakes can withstand a good range in temps. They will do best set up like most snakes with a 80 to high 80 basking (or belly) heat spot.

Feeding..
Id personally say if the snake length is:
under 2' - every 7-10 days
Over 2' - every 10-14 days
*Appropriate size would be a prey item that is close to the snakes girth. If you feed smaller feed a couple. If you feed one that is the size in diameter the snake is just one will do.

Edit: unless you have a preference. frozen thawed are much easier to deal with. example: if the snake doesnt want to eat, you dont have to take care of it. you dont have to worry about it biting you animal causing a wound. you can store them in the freezer and use when you need them.

my favorite reptile is chams.:D, which is my only reptile because i have saltwater fish can take up a lot of your time

Thanks for the additional info Atarax!

Lol, I will admit something then, I find snakes boring, and have never wanted one. Well, I have, but the only one Ive ever wanted was a GTP. :)

This one needed to be cared for, and I was around, so...yeah lol.

Its been fairly interesting so far though, and I will further admit that Im looking forward to feeding it. :p

Now, I have to literally name the snake...

...Im told it was called Baby before :notimpressed:...

Need something...better...

Had the first successful feeding this evening!

Bit of a cock up on the video footage front, but it seemed to all go well, and the snake seems to be doing well overall thus far.

Thanks for all the help everyone :)

Do not let anyone but a very experienced vet probe it as it can cause severe internal damage,(that is the only way to be sure of the sex) i think it is a brooks king snake, not the most arboreal snake but will climb if given the structure to climb on. If you think it might have gotten cold it would be a good idea to put it in a container with warm(not hot) water making sure it can hold its head above the water and soak it for 10 to 15 minutes two or three times over a week or so. This will hydrate it and help it to pass any hardened material still inside.(sometimes hard yellow chunks will come out) I know you said it already went but you could be surprised what could still be inside it. Best heat source is undertank or ceramic heat emitter on one end with upper 80's to 90 basking and a good thermal gradient so it can t regulate just like a Cham. King snakes will eat almost anything so don 't put anything in with it you don't want eaten!!! Hope this helps

Beautiful snake. I like the names from harry potter. I was going to go that route as a theme for my reptiles but ended up doing something different. For a male: Severus, voldemort, Lucius, Sirius, gilderoy, Horace, Fenrir, Regulus, Aragog, Kingsley, remus, Alastor, Hagrid, etc.
