My Uromastyx

My pair of Mali Uromastyx have been doing an awful lot of posing recently... I guess I've just been seeing them out and about in their house.


Definitely some adorable pudgy little faces going on there.

Yes! They definitely have a tortoise vibe to them.

I had an egyptian uromastyx for 3 years. They're amazing pets when properly tamed. They're like a mix between an iguana and tortoise.

I had a big boy at 26" named Yuri. Highly reccomened pets if you have the time!

I lost him due to a HUGE raccoon that broke into his outside enclosure one night.

That's a big uro! Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I'm planning to set up an outdoor pen for them this summer. Definitely going to raccoon proof it.

I didn't spend as much time as I should have with these guys when I first acquired them. They are a sexed captive bred pair that were a great deal. I went for it knowing I wanted to work with them but haven't gotten to taming them until now. After just a few handlings they doing really well!

I have seen a couple in person that were sleeping and I totally thought they were dead cuz they were all wrinkly and deflated. They are pretty cool tho.

That takes me back to my pet shop days. We once had animal control show up because of a report that we had a "giant lizard with its skin peeling off that would probably not last the night"... It was a shedding adult rhino iguana, so at least they got the giant lizard part right.
