I picked up this little Nosy Be girl on Sunday, thought I'd show her off, and my almost complete DIY mesh enclosure :)

Here's the setup. 16" deep, 24" long, 24" tall. I still need to put a strip of velcro on the bottom front, and plant the foliage, but I think it looks awesome!

And here's some pics of the little girl :D

yes do this
make sure he has away to the bottom and back up like some fake vines
even sticks from outside
just keep em mold free

There is a fake vine/stick attached to the schefflera as an escape route. I'm planning on putting organic soil on the tub and repotting the plants in it, just so its more natural/safe for her.

She is tiny, 5"-6" from nose to tail tip at 5 months. She's been a runt since she hatched, and I was lucky enough to notice that buried in an ad he was offering her free to a good home. I'm totally in love and already planning for more lol.

She is adorable, and welcome to the forum! chameleons are very addicting we currently have 2 a third will be on the way next month... And im sure more will follow(i really want a female panther)

Oooh! I recognize this little beauty from the BCRC facebook page. Glad to see you and your little cutie here, too! :)

Welcome to the forums!! I also recognized this little cutie from the BCRC FB page. I'm excited because I am pretty sure she is from the same clutch as my boy Gordon. Thanks for sharing some pics!!

What an absolute sweetie she is! congrats :)

May I suggest a few more plants and vines in your enclosure? I know she's small but it looks a little bare and theres not a lot for her to climb or places to hide. I know she's climbing the mesh but that could harm her claws when she gets a bit bigger and heavier.

Also, I don't see a uv light, what are you using for uvb source?

agreed I would get some horizontal branches in there just to give the Cham more room to explore an find there happy basking spot, is the humidity ok in there? And a no fix da boad chameleon he will see some sites

Thanks :)

This wasnt the original plan for a cage when I bought the plants, so I've ended up with more space than i thought id need to fill. Im an hour outside the city so I'll grab another bigger schifflera when i can get to wal mart!

I switch between a UV and heat bulb at night right now since my day time temps are hot enough.

Dirklance, she's from the clutch Brock has advertised on the old BCRC page, I think its the babies he brought to the expo? If hes from that clutch they probably are siblings :)

You should have uv on her all the time through the day. It's not for temperature it's to help her absorb vitamin d and prevent metabolic bone disease. Switching it with the heat will not do the trick at all.

Also, no light at night! They need 12 hours of heat AND uvb through the day and total darkness with a temperature drop at night. They can't sleep properly otherwise and will become unhappy.

UVB bulb is on during the day, red heat bulb at night. I have done my research, I'm not a noob and also keep snakes and scorpions :p

We have 28°-30° highs during the day, then the temps drop to 11°, 7° last week!! So the heat needs to be on during the night till i can make some space in the herp room.

I wouldn't use a red heat buld at night it's not natural for chameleons it may cause them not to sleep well, if you need a heat bulb I would probly go for ceramic but glad to here you have done some research rather than jumping strait in

From everything I have heard you should not be using a red bulb at night for heat, as the red light emitted from the bulb can be seen by the chameleon and affects their sleep. If temperatures are an issue at night you might consider switching to a ceramic heater, provides the heat without the visible light. I may be wrong on this one as I am from Vancouver and do not require nighttime heating, but I'm relatively sure you should stay away from the red bulbs.

Sorry! I'm not trying to insult you :)

That is a pretty low night time temp, I'm in the middle of the north sea and it doesn't get that cold in my house.

Like chameleonkev mentioned, use a ceramic heat emitter if you need heat at night as even the red light will disturb her sleep.

And if your temps are getting too hot during the day you can switch your basking light off for a while and just use the UVB on its own.

I only asked about uv because I didn't see it in your picture so again, sorry if you thought I was being insulting :)

I'll fiddle with my little heater tonight and see if i can get a proper temp going, never occured to me it would interrupt her sleep cycle since it's meant for nighttime use with other species.

I'm in Vanderhoof, geographical centre of british columbia. Temps are definately a bit wierd, 60° change through the year lol

The red buld are more for bearded dragons an that not for chameleons, it's a common mistake as pretty much every reptile shop will sell you them for the porpose to use them for chams
