My new pain in the butt (puppy)

This adorable little thing is the most mischievous, stubborn Sheltie I've ever run across! His older sister, Mina, was a typical puppy but way less apt for getting into trouble. This one seems like he's looking for it! lol He's also super affectionate, which my other one isn't really, so he's a really sweet little boy.

Milou, at 13 weeks old.

And if anyone out there is really good at crate training, I'd love to chat with you in PM's. I did it with Mina but it was so long ago I feel like I'm rusty. And I think I've given away all my puppy training books to friends with new dogs lol.

Its probably because of that sweater you put on him ;) He's very cute though. I made the mistake of buying two german shepherds at once, It was like training three dogs at once lol. But I love them to death. Good luck with your young man!:)

Hush you! lol It was 30*F outside, and my dogs as puppies will not poo when it's cold out, for whatever reason. I swear, if it's under 55F they will not go, no matter how much we walk around, until the second we're back in the house. Maybe they can feel my suffering (I'm a little girl when it comes to cold) and it makes them nervous, I don't know. Otherwise I don't dress them up, Mina only gets a raincoat when it's pouring out - just because these dogs take HOURS and HOURS to dry.

That does sound awful! lol I'm glad I waited til Mina was older. She's teaching him a lot of stuff and I don't have to worry about her at all. I can't imagine having two puppies together!

Really? Only 50? Spoiled Florida dogs! We have mild winters here, but day temps for the winter are usually in the 50s or 60s. Your dogs are beautiful.

I can relate to the sweater! I have a little rescue dog who has joint problems (knees.) The cold makes it worse, and he shivers like you couldn't imagine! He has a rain coat and a nice blue sweater. He gets excited when he's cold and I bring it out. :) It's really cute because he starts to twirl around, often times on just his back feet.

When your dog turns into a ballerina for a jacket, you know he needs it! If he isn't wearing a sweater to go potty outside, he will either not go (and instead do it secretly inside somewhere) or he will go out and get so cold he wont move (except for the shivering) so I have to get him. Taking him on a walk is out of the question because of his knees. When he joins me on walks with my other, more winter suited, dog, he enjoys about 100 meters max of walking and then he has to be picked up and carried. It's kind of sad.

I can't say they stay out of over the amount of time needed to do their stuff, but my dogs go outside to the bathroom at -30.

He is absolutely beautiful!!!! Sounds like he has alot of typical Sheltie energy that is getting him in to trouble :) Great to have an and adult dog to help take the lead in helping him learn too.

Sounds like you have someone helping you with create training so I'll let them take the lead. After teaching it for that last 20+ years.... I'll think I need to concentrate on my Cham learning for now :D However let me know if you need some help... I'll be more then happy to.

I know, these dogs are spoiled! :D Obviously they're cold weather dogs and don't need the clothing but for whatever reason they won't poo when it's chilly out. They will pee but not poo. As soon as they grow up a little and start getting their adult coat they quickly outgrow that. But we don't get many chilly days here in Fl, so maybe they do find it weird. I don't know!

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

k9Luvn, thank you, yes I've had my questions answered. I just feel rusty! lol It's been a while since I had a puppy in the house that was my sole responsibility. I've only had him a week, I think as we get into a routine (just started school back up today too) things will become more stable and things will potty-training will get easier. He starts puppy class this Wednesday too, so I'm sure our new trainer will help us out too.

Yep the very first class of puppy school will go over crate training with you... I'm sure it will all come back. Routine in feeding, and taking out first thing after puppy eats or wakes up is the key.

Have you considered doing agility with him??? That is so much fun. :)

Yes, I'll probably end up doing agility with him as well. His sister took a few classes of it and is just so good at it, she picks it up like she's been jumping and going through tunnels all her life. So with him I'll do it also, as soon as he gets older.
