My Misting schedule. Constructive criticism wanted.

I have a Mistking misting system that runs for 1 minute at 8m, at noon, 3pm, and 6pm it runs for 90 seconds. I also use a spray bottle 3 to 4 times a day to get the plants nice and wet for more hydration and to raise the humidity. My hygrometer ranges from 48%-58%.

now, with that being said. ive been doing a lot of reading and ive found that a long misting about an hour after lights on (to give them a chance to warm up) in the morning does very well with the chameleon for cleaning and hydration. Should i make a few changes to the schedule? or do you think it is fine the way it is? input would be much appreciated.:D

what time do your lights turn on and off? i give my chams an hour in the morning before the misters go on. the last misting of the day is 2-3 hours before lights off.

the lights come on at 7am and the mister starts at 8am. the last misting is at 6pm and its lights out at 8pm.

I have 2 cages, and do 4 periods of 5 minutes each. This requires 10 gallons in the reservoir container, and produces 5 gallons of waste water per cage over a 6 day period.

Using longer times is benificial for chams who need more stimulation before they begin drinking.

With a six day time frame, I only dump my two 5 gallon buckets once a week basically.

thats interesting. with the quantity i am misting i produce almost no waste water. it all goes into the plant soil (which is not necessarily a good thing.) my plants

dont like that much water. of course i do get some waste water. I am looking for plants that handle that much water because my schefflera isnt doing very well. I

might just have to buy a 2nd one and switch them out every now and again to let one recover in good sunlight while one is in the enclosure. I will probably have to

find a way to have my schefflera drain better. im going to repot it and put rocks and sand on the bottom 3rd and organic soil for the rest of it. my dracaena seems

to be doing fine.

Using multiple plants that can be swapped in and out is probably the best solution. I use a schedule similar to yours, I do not water for such prolonged periods. I do 6 misting sessions from 1 minute to 90 seconds, just like you. I also do not use drainage systems. The only thing different that I do is that I have my timer scheduled to start about 15 minutes after lights on, and 15 minutes before lights off.

One thing to note about switching out plants! Do not thrust them directly into the sunlight, they will die. Instead put them by a window for 3 days, then transition them outside into direct light. When plants are deprived of sunlight and then suddenly introduced, they tend to get shocked and get sad. Not all plants, but certainly Hibiscus and Schefflera.

thanks for the tip! i definitely would have fallen victim to that.

Thank you that's very useful information. Sorry for piggy riding on this thread but that gives me a solid idea. I plan to leave for three weeks in December, I have four cages. I plan to spray four times 45seconds to a minute each average. Plan to use a 55 gal drum for supply and a 30 gal for waste. Of course I will have some one visit them periodically but I don't want to worry about hydration.
Now back to the original OP I think his schedule is great, more than sufficient.

Does anyone of you use a water heater? in the tank? I wonder if either one of you have experience on that.
