My dragon, Lou

Thought I would share some pics of my bearded dragon, Lou. He is a rescue somewhat, and came to us in pretty bad shape just over a year ago. His owners had kept him in a exo terra nano for the first six months of his life, never supplemented or kept under proper lighting.. when I seen him in there I had to take him... He has a bit of a nip tail, which actually was necrotic when he came to us, it fell off after a while. He also grew a bit of a crook in the base of his tail as time has went on... Could this be from a break? or does this look like mbd of sorts? He is also very small, weighing in at 120g.. Could he eventually grow in to his full size?

Man that is one pretty dragon. His colors are really nice.

If im putting it all together he is about 1 1/2 years old. Dragons typically dont stop growing till they are two but...with the past owners neglecting him. Im sure he wasnt getting the proper nourishment to grow fully. This will stunt his growth considerably. I suspect your dragon may grow a little more but not much. Expect to have a small dragon (which isnt a bad thing).

The kink tail is not from mbd. I have seen this from time to time with young dragons. Im not sure exactly what causes it but i know it is not mbd :) I have seen a few dragons where the tail kinks in several spot down the tail looking like a snake. My guess is it is some sort of birth defect, from what i dont know.

I've rehabbed a couple of neglected beardies too. One adult female was dumped at the local pet shop in a dirty cardboard box with the excuse that "she didn't do anything anymore". She had no muscle tone, couldn't raise herself off the ground, and her gut was just packed full of sand. All she could do for weeks was lie around, wait for light, heat, water to show up, and lick baby food off a syringe. Eventually I found her a home with someone who built her a huge open top habitat built up on a twin bedframe on castors. The whole thing could be rolled out into the sun. Her devoted owner spent hours catching locusts, sphynx moths, other large insects in a remote area for her. She was quite a spoiled lady!

I also adopted a huge male German giant who was living in a stacking glass fronted bookcase barely twice his own length. He was a complete sweetheart. No one seemed to have any time for him and he was such a great companion. Followed me around the house like a little spiny dog. Such a shame that anyone could mistreat them so badly.

Thank you kind sir! He is definitely a colorful boy, and idea what morph he is?

Lou is very handsome! He kind of looks like Reptor my petsitter's bearded dragon that I'm keeping while she stays at the hospital with her son.

He IS really handsome! Good luck with him! People who neglect animals should automatically get syphilis so their noses rot and fall off

these rescue stories really help me get through the day.
thanks for sharing!

I'm glad that knowing that helps you. :)

I'm proud to tell you all he has been adopted by a friend of mine, and is doing very well! And now has a monster habitat all to himself, one that would rival some zoos habitats:eek: I'll get some pics of him and his new home soon :)
