Personally I would get 11 boxes and transport them as if they being shipped. I would even use the same insulated boxes. That is not how I did my move from California to Montana, but it is how I would do it if I moved today.

My big concern is them being packed for 2 days. I was even thinking doing the screen desk size garbage cans for each just in case its longer until I can get their setups back in action. That way they are vented and if we stop I can spray and feed them in the back of the truck.

That would be how we moved our chams up here, all were packed into the back of my Yukon. We even hauled them into motels at night and misted them down really well. I know it must have been stressful as I just used 16x16x20 cages for all of then, and they could see each other the whole trip. What kind of truck are you talking about?

A uhaul. I may be able to fit them in the back of the Murano but that may be hitched up for the drive. Never a dull moment...

I would try for the car. Your uhaul may very well overheat and kill all of them. If not the car then a box is better than a uhaul. jmo

It'd be a lot more expensive, but perhaps you could move in, leave your Chams with someone in PA and then have them mailed to you.
Just a thought, although for 11 Chams that would put you at an unreasonably high pricetag.
Nevermind!

I strongly recommend packing them as if for shipping. If its going to be for 48 hours straight, I still would probably recommend that.

When I drove from TX to NC with my two, it took 3 days to make the trip(I could have drove it in a little over one if it would have been just me.)
I had them basiclly packed as if for shipping, but would get them out to shower and get some sun the few times we stopped.
UHAULs suck.
I dont envy you having to move 11 chams:(
It was fairly stressful moving mine:eek:
If you can drive it straight, Id recommend you do so.

One of my main concerns was all the jostling that was going to take place. In a truck, just sitting in a box, they get shook pretty hard from the road vibrations. I would try and suspend them if you can. Definitely have them sleep as much as possible through the trip.
Good luck moving, and good luck in FL!!!:D

You have it backwards. He is going from Florida to Penn.

Yankfanthom, you know you could make it a lot easier for yourself, if you stopped in NC and dropped some of them off with me.
Just a thought...

Hey Yank, I just bought "Bozo", the BB from you. We just moved from NY to FL 6 months ago, 3 day drive. Then 3 days in a hotel before we closed on the house; no cages, food, lights. And 3 adult panthers. What I did was put them in decent sized styrofoam boxes with some vines inside and about 4 3/4" holes drilled in various sides. Kept them in the car!!! You have got to be in control of the temps, sun or shade exposure, etc. I taped the boxes shut and once daily did a very mild misting through a hole if they wanted to drink and to keep up the humidity, but was satisfied that there wasn't too much moisture going in either. I was terrified to open the boxes after 6 days, but.........they were all sleeping deeply with their sleep colors on, and didn't even want to be woken up. I got the chameleon sleepy eyes from them No one was dehydrated. The next day my buddy who owns a herp pet shop down here gave me a few screened cages and a bin of crix and superworms. It took their cages and lamps several more days to arrive (just had no more room in the car, 2 bulldogs too) and then I finally got them properly set up. All in all, everything worked 100%. They ate when I caged them and all went perfect. I did intentionally keep the car cool to slow down their metabolism for the trip which I think helped a lot. You certainly have a lot more but I just would never ship them---everything that I just mentioned would be completely out of your control.

Where are you moving to? I'll happily be ready with supplies for you if you're coming anywhere in my direction!

Thanks! We are moving to the Coral Springs area at least that's where we will be working. I'm still house hunting in the Boca, Delray, Boynton areas. Still trying to figure out which is better! I'd rather buy being that it is so much cheaper than renting.
