Mole Crickets

Solid Snake

I have recently found a place I can catch mole crickets.

Does anyone have experience breeding them? Or comments on using them as feeders, compared to standard crickets?

Will these eat standard gutload items, or do they NEED small insect prey as well?

Extremely cool insect:

The only things I know about mole crickets I learned from playing Animal Crossing obsessively across three platforms...

Well what are these things you learned?

I swear I resized these to 600x800!
They are still showing up HUGE on my laptop though ;/

from what i know this mole crickets need dirt to borrow and make their tunnels !
they are grate swimmers, they can jumps also ! and males fly ( a lot )!
so you defenetly need dirt in the container !
i use them as bait when i go fishing !
and they are nocturnal !
they are territorial and they will eat each other if they are kept in a small space in big numbers - very nasty cannibalistic behaviour !
they also need humidity!
and their back legs can scratch the chams throat !
well thats all i know about them !
nasty creature if u ask me !

Hey thanks! ;D

Do you keep/breed them? Or buy/collect them?

I collected 5 of them yesterday, but could easily get lots and lots more.

Sounds like Ill need a large tub to keep them in if I do though.

You can't see them, but when you hear a buzzing hum, just dig around with your spade and one will jump out of the hole. They are quite quick and you can sell them but they aren't worth as much as the other bugs, so aren't really worth bothering with once you've donated the first one to the museum.

i just catch them before i go fishing!i kinda hate them!never heard someone breeding them-everybody wants them dead, they just destroy crops!i dont know if they can be kept without dirt!i will ask a friend more about them since he lives in an area where they trive!

Very interesting. I may have to look into this game...

Everything I find says they will definitely need dirt, especially to breed.

Ive never encountered these things before, and was quite freaked out when I saw them! Then I got a weird look from the people I was with when I started collecting them. :p(Im used to it at this point though)

Very cool man!! Unfortunately i know nothing about them though, but ill bet someone here does! :)
My field guide is still at the office, ill see if i can dig something up tomorrow

I have not found a thread on them searching. ;/

They are large though, like an XLcricket. :p Very meaty as well. :)

Would be great to use for adult panthers or larger chams if they are kosher.

i talked to my friend and he said that is kinda hard to breed them with good results in a colony !
you could just try and see how it goes since no one really tried to breed them !maybe this will works !
if this wont work you can get like 50 -100 feed them off and when they finish just get more !

i found a someone who tried to breed them as bait for catfish !
he used a 20-30L recipe for max 20 of them !
after 3-4 months he gave up .

Lol, thanks for the info. ;)

Any idea how long they lived for them in captivity?

I have not had them live for more than 24hrs after being collected. ;/

I think it may be the food Ive offered, or humidity that is killing them off.

I need to do more test to find out which is the culprit.

he just leveled to breed them in a yard -he said its to hard to breed them in recipe becose of the cannibalize !
he made like a pool of concrete and used leaves , animal fertilizer and other stuff !
a tip to catch them - they love beer , and they can come from 300 m distance for that !
so you can make traps to get them with beer :D

well they lived like 2-3 months but but most of them died, ate each other! and he constantly got more becose most of them would be spent as bait in 2-3 weeks !
he used not mo much humidity - a little above normal !
leaves , dirt, straws(im not sure i know the word in english ) of corn
