Greetings from Hawaii! I finally got my Jackson's Chameleon.
Yesterday I got the finishing touches for her enclosure: a timer for the light and bamboo for some more climbing surfaces.
Then I went to the store and picked up a chameleon. I should really say "saved" because she was one of 6 females in a cage with no covering at all --> just a large stick with a few pothos leaves stuck to it.
I also bought a bag of the smallest crickets they had (because she's itty bitty) and I gave her 4 as a snack last night --> so she either ate, or they found a way to escape... because they are gone now.
So here she is...
I've named her Maka-nui which is Hawaiian for "eyes of greatness". I thought it was very fitting.
UPDATE on enclosure issues:
Here is the final image of the enclosure.
- Moved it away from the windows to avoid the ants.
- The light is on a timer.
- The hibiscus is fighting an ant and mealy worm problem --> I'm keeping a close eye on it and killing any bugs I see. I think its under control.
- I'm looking for a better container for my dripper. (but there is no dollar store in Hawaii... so plastic containers with lids are actually fairly expensive)
- The crickets are securely in their fancy carrying cage (I thought they escaped but they are in the black tubes)
