May 27th (TONIGHT!) South Bay Chameleon Keepers Meeting

Howdy All,

If you live near enough to travel to Torrance, California between the 110 Fwy and the 405 Fwy on Artesia Blvd, the "South Bay Chameleon Keepers" (SBCK) meetings are held on the last Tuesday of the month from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Late arrivals are fine. We use the meeting room at the Toyota Automobile Museum. The address is 2076 Artesia Blvd. in Torrance. It's easy to accidentally drive right by the building since it is hard to see it at night. Use an online map tool or GPS to make sure that you know where to turn into the driveway! Meetings are pretty much free-flowing with all chameleon topics open for discussion. "Show and Tell" discussions are common. We're experimenting with group bulk-buys (silkworms etc.) at our meetings. Some members may be bringing dubias, silkworms and hornworms to sell but that's not for sure. Some of us have brought our chameleon books and magazines along with various items to spark discussions. Don't expect a lot from the meeting and you won't be too disappointed. The whole thing is still in its infancy. Numbers vary between 5-12 keepers at the meetings. Let us know if you are looking for these feeders and we'll try to confirm availability before the meeting.

Don't hesitate to RSVP with an email to: southbaychameleonkeepers@gmail.com if you think you might be coming. Didn't RSVP? Come anyway.

Got lost? The meeting room phone number is only useful during meeting hours. 310-329-5170

Our group ranges from long-time breeders to novice keepers. Lately, there have been 8-12 members attending. I've got word that there are at least 2 additional keepers coming tonight.

Map: http://tinyurl.com/27jg4v (Notice the deep parking lot in front of the Museum!)

From time to time, I'll be bringing my microscope for anyone who brings a fecal sample. I will do fecal smears and not floats (potentially messy) at the meeting which still works well for many parasite types.

See You There,

SBCK

Dave,

This sounds great! I mapquested it and it says "58 min" trip... I can't make it tonight but will definately consider making it for future meetings. I have been hoping to find something like this. Let me know if there is anything else planned.

Thanks,
Joe

Chameleonator is on a distinguished road
For all you locals, I highly recommend attending one of these meetings. Very informative for new and old! The forums are great, but nothing beats the old fashion way of conversing with people in person.

Last meeting Dave brought his UVB meter and showed us how a simple sandwich bag can even diminish the UVB rays. Also how a piece of glass drops it down to zero.

He brought in a microscope, books and slides to show us the various parasites. I ended up investing in a microscope. A valuable tool for us cham owners! With a microscope you can get a jump start and be able to take your chameleon to the vet sooner than later. Fortunately all I been looking at is healthy regular poop slides!!!

Also Kevin (summoner12) brought in his awesome automated misting and lighting system. Eye opener to say the very least!!!

Keeping a chameleon healthy is not by accident but by the great efforts of knowledgeable keepers. The only way to gain knowledge is through reading, forums like this and surrounding yourself with other keepers.

See you guys there...
Emil

Howdy All,

Mika: Yep. I'll be bringing my microscope again.

SoCaliSon: We actually did have pie a couple of meetings ago. Teriyaki chicken at one meeting and pizza at another! Always bottled water .

And all of this has been free (so far ) .

Maybe pizza tonight .
