Well, for the next week and a half I'll be pet sitting a juvenile Mali Uromastyx. It seems to be at a good weight and an alright setup, but it's missing a UVB bulb. It has some stuck shed as well. If you own one can you please post pictures of your setups and Uro? Also advice on their care?

Much Appreciated - Zac

I've kept Malis and other uros for years and have always used a reptisun 5.0 on the cages in additional a heat source of course.

I set the cage up so there is a warm end and a cool end with hides at both ends. The basking area would be at 110F or so....and the cool end about 75F. The cages had a sand substrate and were decorated wih driftwood branches and rocks including a pile of bricks with black slate slabs to form a hide and a basking area at the warm end of each cage and a similar hide of bricks and a slate slab at the cool end. I did have a small water dish in the cages but didn't use them all the time.

I fed them an assortment of greens (dandelion greens, collards, endive, escarole, mustard greens, kale, etc) and veggies (carrots, squash, zucchini, sweet red pepper, sweet potato, etc) and a very small amount of fruit (apple, berries, melon, pear, etc). As theybwent into brumation in the winter I cut this down gradually to almost nothing and added a dish of dry lentils. I dusted the "salads" with calcium at most feedings and once in a while with vitamins.

I never got fertile eggs from them but I also didn't hibernate them at temperatures that were low....just brumated them. Hibernating takes more "skill" since you can lose them if its not done properly IMHO.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Kinyonga

That helps so very much! This little guy seems to get the bare minimum. Not UVB light, just a heat light and a UTH, sand a half log to hide in, and a branch with two rocks and a feeding dish. I think all he gets are lentils and mustard greens. I made him a feast today of lentils, collard greens, sweet potato, banana, pear, and apple. He at quite a bit of it up and went and defecated quite a bit. Here are some photos of him/her. I think it's a Mali, but not 100% sure. It's in shed right now and seems to have stuck shed. It's quite lazy but if it's being taken out it moves around quite a bit and stays very warm!

I am calling it Neil for now, just because I don't know it's real name. Neil is 87.5 grams and is about 5 inches h/v and 8.75 inches h/t. He's very skittish so I assume he gets handled rarely.

Also, does anyone know of a good forum for these animals?
