I was told to not give my montium a shower. The temp will get too high for him, they require cooler temps.

If this is a recent poo, you are still not hydrating him enough. Montanes need lots and lots of water. Like LL said you need to be putting him in the shower for 20-30 mins at a time. At least once daily until he gets hydrated.
My mister on my Melleri is more of a shower as it uses sprinkler heads. I run it for 30 mins 2 times a day. I know this is over kill but they like it and it ensures they are well hydrated.

Yup... They orange means he is dehydrated. If you have a way to get him long heavy mistings in his cage, a shower is not really necessary IMO. The noise and surroundings can be stressful for them... It is ideal to get them hydrating while they are comfy in their cage. Also I know you said the vet found loads of parasites. Did he say what kind? I hope he pulls though for you. Was this poo from before or aster the docs?
I know you have done a lot already... but I would rally consider what Kinyonga was saying about the foot. I would consider a second opinion for the foot, since the first vet missed it completely. You also want to know what the Vet treated your cham with to get rid of those parasites. Good Luck! |

Who told you that? I read that other thread and didn't see any one tell you this. Some one may have and I may have missed it, it is a long thread. I know very little about montiums, but still being a Montane he should love a shower. Just don't use hot water. You want it warm to the touch at the shower head and just barely cool at the point of contact with the animal.

I've never delt with montanes but I'd bet they misread not to give them WARM showers like we give our veileds.

I think I know something about "Montanes" and I absolutly don't understand why you should shower him. The water shouldn't be too warm but that's everything.
There's as well a famous article from a professor who put his quads in special "rain chambers", which caused a plus in the weight and more healthy animals

Good Lord! I just read your other thread. Had to start skimming through a lot of it until I read the vet results. After seeing your poo sample I was going to say parasites (jelly goo look to it) and dehydration or kidney issues. I guess the vet confirmed that. What parasite(s) did the vet say he has? What treatment was he given for the issue? Where you given anything for future treatments? Any parasite issue requires multiple doses. A severe infestation requires multiple rounds of treatments over perhaps months. It looks like you are hydrating it now, but it's likely that the cham has kidney damage from the prior dehydration. The orange urates possibly suggest this (if he has been drinking and still has them). He may require support care for the rest of his life. Supplementation should be very very light until you figure out if he has a permanent kidney issue. Damaged kidneys can not handle suppliments as well.
Unless you have more information to flesh out about this vet visit I am going to say that your vet does not sound experienced with reptile issues. Things don't sound right. I am also going to say that this guy is going to need some expensive care down the line to get him to health and overcome prior damage. I am going to offer to pay for the shipping to have you send him to me. I have my own microscope to do fecals. I have all the proper anti-parasite drugs for any parasite he could have. I have an excellent reptile vet. I am willing to pay the vet costs for futher tests. Heck I will pay for his initial visit too. I have a lot of experience with reptiles over 15 years. I already have Montane species. Please consider my offer to take him. Or to send him to someone else making a similar offer. I think he requires some expensive care and daily care from someone with a lot of experience. If not me, than someone else. I really think you did a great thing buying him and putting yourself out there on the forums to try to help him. And for going to the vet. It's taken a lot of courage to listen to all the stuff on the other thread (right or wrong) and continue pursuing his care. I would say that you should think about taking it a step further and let another willing party carry the burden from here. I would be happy to do it.....
