Live perches

When using real perches, I know you need to disinfect them one way or another. But does anyone put a protective layer on them or are they good to go after they've been treated?

I've been using the same sticks from outside since around two years, they haven't shown any signs of wear or rot so far.

I mist quite often and the humidity was quite high a lot of the time.

Really, if you want sticks from the outside, all you have to do is wash them, but if you're being really paranoid you can heat the oven to 500 degrees, TURN THE OVEN OFF and then put the sticks in and let them sit for a couple of minutes in the heat.

You also could buy some spray sealant. I bought some to use on my parrot ladder (in my chameleon cage) because it was cut and shaved wood, with no bark on it. I sprayed around 3 coats on it, let it dry, aired out for a couple days, then washed it off and put it in the enclosure.

I only did that to make sure that one ladder didn't rot from moisture.

Yea all I did was give them a good wash.

And that's what I thought about the sticks but I was just double checking.

thanks for the reply.

I don't like baking them because it makes the house smell like burnt wood for days though. :p

Honestly cleaning them is a fine way to go.
