Lighting/Live plants - ambilobe viv HELP!

HELP - despite my partner being very "green fingered" and after a lot of care and research into suitable live plants for the Vivarium (5'x4'x2' - wooden/glass front/mesh top etc), despite everything, while the Cham is thriving, many of the plants aren't really.

Here is the lighting/heat source - all sitting above the mesh - a good 14" from the highest point in the viv for the cham:
6% UVB 22" 24W arcadia D3 reptile tube lamp
100w exo terra 100w Sun glo neodymium daylight basking light
250w infra red heat blub

We are able to maintain excellent humidity/hydration levels, and the temperature is thermostatically controlled at around 29 degrees Celcius at the basking spot.

As I said, the cham is doing really well - good hydration, great hunter, great appetite, vibrant colours etc, it is just a lot of the cham safe plants really struggle, which is strange as trust me my partner has the rest of our apartment looking like a semi-tropical oasis with all the traditionally hard-to-grow plants doing so well. We are convinced it is something to do with lighting requirements in the mini ecosystem of a viv, and need some help to just get it right.

Any tips from other 100% live planted chameleon vivs would be greatly appreciated.

do u have a drainage system... is there enough room/ are each plant choking each other? are these plants ment to be in the hydration they are in
ex. A orchid under a dripper is a bad idea

Could really do with some pictures to help out!!

Drainage would be a good first shout. Choice of plants would be next. Then it would be the lighting.

Give us a picture and we'll be able to give better advice! :D

You want to make sure your cham can get within a good 10 inches or so to the uvb bulb if not closer... if it can only get 14 inches close the bulb isnt doing much at all.

you dont need the infrared heat bulb, they can see the red and 250watts is like..insanely high. i assume you got this for night? the 100watt light might even be too much once you move some sticks and vines closer to the uvb

anyways, as far as plant light you should consider adding some other lights, either a plant specific light, or 6500k light (cfl or tube)

as stated above, could be drainage.. maybe you should replace the soil with a soil/sand mixture?

IMO that lighting is quite excessive for the cham unless you have a Namaqua chameleon....at least you have it on a thermostat lol.

I'd switch out the 6% uvb for a 10% or even 8%. Especially at the distance you have it from the cham.

For the plants, you want something like a SunBlaster UVB fixture. http://sunblasterlighting.com/

T5 seem to be a good option these days. If you can get one bulb for UVB, and one bulb for the plants....you'll want to look for a CRI of 90-95, Color Temperature of at least 5500k - 6500k is better (but don't go above 6500k).

I would use the T5 over coiled.

Something a lot of cham keepers forget to do with their plants is FERTILIZE them, at least once every two weeks with something like Miracle Grow. If they are in soil that is too moist, it will suffocate their roots.

Try bromeliads or tillandsia, you can get some nice big ones that will do well in most lighting and the humidity+airflow of a cham cage is perfect for them. Just make sure they are securely fastened.
