Have this infestation of eggs in the soil of our pygmy tank. What is it and what do we do about it? We also have been noticing gnats. Are they related to this infestation of eggs? Thank you in advance for your advice! Oops- forgot the photo! Duh....

No. I probably need a better photo. These are tiny white eggs, some with fuzz around them.
Aha. I forgot to load the photo. There it is now. Sorry! |

I found the exact same thing in my silkworm colony. They are about 2 or 3 times the size of this period . and have a slight green tinge to them and are covered with the fuzz. The dot in the middle is the size of the period, not the whole thing. I thought they were silkworm eggs. Maybe not.

Well, actually, they look very much like the eggs silkworm moths lay, but silkworm eggs are a little larger. And silkworm moths lay there eggs on a surface, no digging.

They don't look like cricket eggs. Those are more cigar shaped.
I don't know what they are. -Brad

Mold
I think it is mold spores. Is the soil moist. Eventually they will grow and connect and become a big pile of white mold. Now how I know is I grow many indoor plants in my home and when I overwater a plant and the soil doesn't dry quick enough the exact thing happens so I scrape it off and don't water for a while.

I also googled with life cycle of a gnat, and there are some species that lay their eggs under soil in clusters like that. So, I guess it could be gnats. |

Thank you for replying. Right, cricket eggs are long and turn clear. These are little white round things.
