Hey everyone, I found this site via google while doing some research on breeding panther chameleons. Incase anyone asks, I am in the Durham Region in Canada, Ontario and I'm 25 so I am mature about this and ready to learn, I already have experience breeding bearded dragons and have had over 100 dragons hatch successfully (and live and end up in good homes) in 2011.
I have 2 panther chameleons
The male (pic attached) is I believe 8-11 months old, I can't remember as I have misplaced all the paperwork that I have on all of my reptiles when moving (I have no idea how I lost it, but I thought I safeguarded that stuff pretty closely
)
My female panther is about 4-5 months old (found a pic on my mac from when we got her in october last year at 2 months old, she would now be 5 months old (almost) and she sheds about once a week (starting to slow down a bit now)
(I also have and breed 2 bearded dragons and I have a 3rd bearded dragon which is a male leatherback and have been breeding them for about a year, with 90 eggs in the incubator right now, it has actually stopped holding its temp at 83F and is holding at 83F then will drop to 74F and won't correct until a few hours later, switch is on normal not mute and I'm pretty angry about this since it's only a year old, made by Exo-Terra

I would like to ask a few questions:
1) I need a new incubator, it can wait since I am thinking of getting rid of the bearded dragons, we have 5 reptiles in total, and breeding the beardies is costing us (my gf and I) a little too much, we are buying 1000 crickets every 2 weeks @ $34.99, however when we have 30-40 baby bearded dragons the cost instantly doubles from $80/month in food to about $150-$160 (btw, I feed my reptiles very very well)
Regardless, the question is what incubator is the best, I don't want to use a homemade one I prefer a professional level, max cost of $350.00
2) How old should my female be before I breed her with our male, obviously he will be old enough when she is.
3) What kind of lay box did you build and how did it work out for you, I've heard getting chameleons to lay eggs can be pretty challenging.
4) We breed and sell to local stores in our area.
We bought our male panther chameleon for $399.99+taxes
My work had a day where a company came and sold coupon booklets and my boss knowing that I am breeding reptiles and that I love the hobby bought me a booklet for a place called Reptilia (I've never been there until he gave me these) and while talking to one of the managers about breeding beardies and wanting to get into chameleons, I showed him the picture of our male and he said he had the perfect chameleon if I'm interested. Needless to say the chameleon (our female panther now) had a price tag of $450. After asking tons of questions and such I didn't even haggle because I told him I couldn't afford to just drop that kind of money right now, he gave the chameleon to me for $250.00 out the door and she's been awesome so far and is pretty used to me now.
BTW: I've heard its rare, but our chameleon is happy in his 175gallon flexarium. However, he loves coming out so much I can barely ever feed him without him coming out first he just has to walk all over me and everything he can get a grip on.
Lastly: I would like to state that I breed the bearded dragons for 3 reasons (most important reason from first to last)
-I breed for the hobby, its very rewarding to me knowing that I have the ability and knowledge to do this, and the space.
-I breed to support all 5 reptiles from the money the stores pay me
-I do it for a little profit, however the money I make from breeding bearded dragons is the last thing on my mind.
That said, I get $20-$30 per bearded dragon and my gf and I split the cheque when we get it in the mail (unfortunately they can't do cash).
How much is an average rate for wholesaling panther chameleons. Is it true females are worth more? The store told me $150-$200 per chameleon and this would greatly help the both of us profit wise (but like I said, hobby first and foremost). I don't care what the store sells it at ($399-$449 depending on age) because getting rid of all of them at the same time where there is multiple people to take care of them makes me feel better. My work schedule actually works out well with this, my gf works day shift and I work midnights. The lights come on when I get home @ 7:30AM and I feed at 9:30-10:30 then go to bed, when my gf goes to bed the lights are off.
When the time comes to incubate the eggs, what is the ideal temperature to incubate at and how long does it usually take YOU to have the eggs hatch out.
Are there any signs of anything wrong with the female when she is gravid? I won't be able to breed her with the male for quite awhile obviously but I am doing the research on it now so I don't have to when its too late.
